Eyonix announced today that with the Burning Crusade Hunters will have access to new pet types.

We do plan to make additional pet types available to the Hunter in Outlands, and of course over time, do plan to improve upon the availability of unique pet abilities. More information on this subject will become available as we move closer to release.
