It’s been rumored for a while now that Vanguard: Saga of Heroes might be joining the ranks of the free-to-play. Today Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) confirmed the news in Vanguard’s March Producer’s Letter. While no solid date has been given for the transition, the letter notes that the model will be something similar to the one used by EverQuest and should be arriving sometime this summer.

There is some other good news in the announcement. As part of the transition, SOE is getting a new development team put together for Vanguard: Saga of Heroes that has some familiar faces like Creative Director Salim "Silius" Grant, Technical Director Todd "Hobart" Schmidt and Director of Development Andy Sites. The team is promising more frequent updates, which the game has been sorely lacking for quite some time. The first update is scheduled to deploy by the end of this week followed by a rollout of new information.

Over the next several weeks, we plan to roll-out individual "spotlight" pieces for each team member, to give you an opportunity to get to know each of them.  In addition, you can expect to see more frequent game updates, as well as more detailed information regarding the upcoming free-to-play aspects of Vanguard.
