World of Warcraft: Rage of the Firelands is hitting live servers this week and so, with this in mind, Blizzard has updated the patch notes and compiled all the released information into a handy guide.

MMO Champion is also reporting that US subscribers are receiving emails offering them a free copy of WoW to give to a friend who doesn’t have the game. This is a brilliant move by Blizzard, especially given the drop in subscribers over the last six months.

Finally, Bashiok has offered clarification on buying shiny gear before the servers go down for the extended maintenance. He explains that where, normally, you’d have a time period to redeem your piece of gear, if you choose to buy it just before the patch (as many folks no doubt will), this will not be the case because of the point down-conversion. Once the severs go down, any remaining time you had left to swap or sell back the gear will be gone. So, basically, buyer be wary and triple check you’ve got the right piece of gear before the servers go down for the night.
