Redaktion Gamestar, a German news outlet, recently sat down with Blizzard to talk about Classic and the dreaded "layering". For anyone who doesn't know, World of Warcraft uses this system to hide players, and to reduce the number of players on screen at once. Effectively, it places you in a different plain to another player, even if you're on the same server. WoW Classic never had this, but as times have changed, removing the need for layering - especially with the amount of players anticipated to play the game - would prove difficult. The lack of layering at launch is partly the reason why World of Warcraft had millions of servers (layering reduces this need). As we all also know, player loss is often huge after launch (which is why many starting servers were empty after a while).

Fastforward to now, and a week away from WoW Classic's launch, and it looks like layering is only going to be used during this initial rush, and until players naturally fall away from the game. Here's the translation by a kind soul on Twitter.
