What are the
system requirements for Age of Conan?

Q: Where are the servers located?
A: There are servers both in North America and in Europe. North American users only get a choice of the North American servers, and European users can only see the European servers.
Q: How many players can each server hold?
A: Each server is able to support around 3000 players.
Q: What engine does the game use?
A: The game uses the DreamWorld engine, which was first used for Arnarchy Online in 1996. Since then, the engine has undergone vast changes and improvements to meet and exceed today’s standards. It has recently been upgraded to the "Cheetah 2" engine.
Q: How many voice actors were used to make the game?
A: Over 100 actors were used to create the dialog and other voice effects in Age of Conan.
Q: Is this a DirectX9 or DirectX10 game?
A: The game is designed to make full use of Direct-X 10, but it can also be played on Direct-X 9 video cards and operating systems.
Q: What is “instancing” and is it used in Age of Conan?
A: Instancing is a term used to create a private version of a dungeon or area, usually used to prevent over-crowding or to offer a more involved experience to a player or group of players. There are instanced areas and events in the game, but they are not overdone to the point where you feel closed off from the rest of the game world. There are also "social" instancies, allowing 100 players into the instance before a new instance is created.
Q: What about the sound in the game?
A: The game has a great musical soundtrack and sound effects, all in a 5.1 capable sound engine.
Q: I’ve read that Age of Conan is a Windows Vista launch title. What does this mean? Will I need Windows Vista to play it?
A: The game takes full advantage of Windows Vista and DX10. Funcom has been working with Microsoft to make sure they make full use of the advantages of the operating system and the Direct X version. However, it will also be able to be played on Windows XP and DX9.
Q: Is there a built-in voice chat feature?
A: Not as of yet. A voice chat feature may be built in later, but for now, you can communicate using typed text and character emotes and animations.
Q: Can I use a gamepad to play the game?
A: Yes. While some controls will still need to be done through the keyboard (such as typing communication), you can connect a gamepad to move your character and join in combat. There is also a rumble feature that will make your controller vibrate when you hit an enemy with your weapon if you have a compatible gamepad.
Q: What platforms will the game be on?
A: The game will first release on the PC, and an XBox 360 release is planned some time after.
Q: How dynamic is the character creation process?
A: Character customization is pretty robust. You can make your character look as "pretty" or as "ugly" as you would like. You can adjust facial features, and body types.
