Vanguard Poll: Party of Conformity: Defensive Fighters

Posted April 25th, 2008 by Shayalyn

Traditionally Non-Traditional

Game play within Vanguard: Saga of Heroes generally encourages not only grouping, but also gathering a traditional group of tank, healer, crowd control, and nukers. Non-traditional groups have proven they can do well in the past, so Dalmarus has brought the topic to its extreme in an effort to see just which class has got what it takes to ignore all others.

If anyone wonders, they didn't seem to be having the slightest problem hunting out there either. In fact, I almost wondered if it was going much better than a more traditional group.

I am torn between the heals of the paladin and the dread knights. I am leaning to the evil side but am willing to be persuaded.

The DPS of the paladin is very respectable thanks to GU4. There's still a disparity in DPS, but I think most are ok with it. Let the people who want big numbers use the big weapons. The traditional sword and board are for me. Not to mention that there are lots of aggro gaining abilities for the paladin. I really don't have any issues with gaining and holding aggro.

Anyway, the paladins aren't going to kill anything fast, but with one in offensive stance (increases damage and accuracy) o...

I must admit that I'm leaning toward DK, however I haven't actually voted yet because I recognize that part of my leaning toward DK is likely based on the fact that DK is the only one of the three options that I've actually played.

Still, here is my reasoning:

1) Warriors don't have heals... so when it comes to making a fixed group they will be at a severe disadvantage in really long fights (like bosses or raid mobs). So, I excluded them.

2) A couple of specific benefits were mentioned fo...

To Dal - From what I have seen, Pals don't have a problem holding agro. It seems to be on par with the DK if not slightly better. I think the difference would come down to the player and gear choices in the end though.

To Astuun - I understand what you're saying about the possible suvivability of that group, but I can take you to a few places that would debunk this idea ("that can not possibly EVERY die") rather quickly.

To Magual - You left out Sycthe of Doom (AOE self-heal), which act...
