Lord Ahune, the Frost Lord, is an elemental lord who part of a plot by Twilight’s Hammer to start an elemental war on Azeroth. He currently resides in the second room of the Slave pens encased in an ice stone ready to be summoned through the daily quest “Summon Ahune”. He’s only available for two weeks and has some loot that is only seasonally available. He resides within the Slave Pens in Coilfang Reservoir.
To get to Ahune load into the instance (picking up the quest at the entrance) and head into the second room where you’ll find some Earthen Ring NPC’s sitting around. A crystal to the left of the room is the device that will summon Ahune but you’ll want to clear the entire southern half of the room out and then some. Once the room is clear you can turn in your quest to the Ice Stone which will summon Ahune. Be sure to warn your party not to turn in their quest until everyone is ready and the room is cleared, otherwise they’ll lose their summon for the day (only one person can get credit for completing the quest so you can have multiple chances to summon).
The rules for summoning are simple. In normal mode you can summon Ahune as much as you want for as many people who have the daily quest to summon him. On heroic you can do the same, however, once he’s been killed (and you’re saved to the instance) you cannot summon him again.
During phase one he’s going to spawn one Ahunite Hailstone which is elite and needs to be tanked by your tank. Then he’s going to send, at first two, adds which will be Ahunite Frostwinds and Coldwaves, towards your party. Their agro is finicky and your tank is going to be occupied with keeping the Hailstone under control. So they’re going to be moving about. In normal mode their damage isn’t too much but on heroic you’re going to see a good deal of damage out of them.
The hailstone will do a good deal of physical damage and has a debuff that does 300 frost damage every 3 seconds and can stack up to 10 times through an aura that pulses around it (therefore keep it away from the party). The Frostwind has a “Wind Buffet” that’ll pull someone to it and a weak lightning shield. The coldwave is just annoying and does light physical damage.
For the majority of the fight place your tank at the forefront (but out of melee range of Ahune) so that they’ll go for him first and make sure your healers are not using heal over time spells unless they’re ready to pull instant agro. Have your tank pull and tank the hailstone as soon as it spawns along with anything else he can pull and handle. DPS down the hailstone as fast as possible while one member of your party works on killing the smaller adds (as they’re super weak with about 1,200 to 1,500 hp and upwards to 2,000 on heroic) which is a few normal shots or a crit for someone who is decently geared.
During phase one Ahune himself can take 25% of your damage so anything spare can go towards him such as DoTs and random ranged attacks. Make sure no one gets in melee range of him. For DPS AoE damage is fine, fear is alright too, and healers need to watch their aggro otherwise they’ll get overwhelmed fast.
Make sure that everyone gets their characters OUT of the way of the Ice Spear attack. It can knock you into the water which will take you out of the fight for awhile. It also takes you out of the fight while you fall and does a good 10%ish fall damage.
A “Frozen Core” will appear with Ahune’s health. DPS it down like mad as fast as you can. Remember that you need to get 40-50% off during the next 30 seconds so use everything you have. After phase two Ahune will reappear and he’ll have an additional non-elite add spawn each wave. So it’s in your best interest to end this in two phases. Three is the maximum for most decently geared groups before you’re overwhelmed on the fourth phase one.
Once dead a frozen chest will spawn. Everyone needs to loot it if you want to respawn Lord Ahune on normal or if everyone wants their badge on heroic. That’s it! Pretty simple. Keep the adds under control in the first section of the fight and then get as much DPS as possible in the section part. Then rinse and repeat. Within no time you’ll have yourself an epic cloak and/or an epic necklace (necklaces drop on heroic).
