WoW: Midsummer Festival Guide

Posted June 27th, 2008 by Xerin

The Midsummer Fire Festival is a celebration of the northern summer solstice (corresponding with the earthly times) that generally runs for two weeks starting June 21st and lasting until July 4th. It has evolved over the years into a very rewarding and fun festival that contains lots of seasonal quests and tons of rewards (even up to 500g from looting bonfires!)

Events

There are a lot of things to do and many are based on your level!

  • Ribbon Dancing: In each major city you’ll see a ribbon with lots of people around it dancing madly about with ribbons of red colored light flowing between them and a pole. Use the pole (right click) to begin dancing. You’ll be given a 3 minute buff that increases earned experience by 10% for 3 minutes. Every 3 seconds that you’re dancing you’ll get another buff until it stacks to 20 (or 60 minutes).
  • Bonfires: Located within most cities throughout Azeroth and Outland you’ll find bonfires burning brightly. These will eventually extinguish when the opposing faction desecrates the flame. The bonfires can be reignited by throwing a Burning Blossom (the reward for many quests). The bonfires grant “Bonfire’s Blessing” which grants every a 30% chance to deal 3x their level in fire damage on a spell, melee, or ranged attack. Furthermore, tossing a Burning Blossom into a bonfire 3% critical strike and spell critical strike.
  • Stealing the Major City Flames: For the adventurous you can enter each major city for an opposing faction and activate their primary bonfire (right clicking it) to obtain a fire sample that gives a quest “Stealing the ____’s Flame” where ____ is the city name. Once you’ve collected all four you’ll be awarded with an amazing flame crown that is highly decorative. You’ll need to be level 50 to obtain the quests but not the samples.
  • Bonfire Discoveries and Dousing: There are roughly 30 bonfires for each faction inside of various cities spread out through the world. At level 70 you can obtain 5 Burning Blossoms and 6 gold for discovering your own faction’s bonfires and 10 Burning Blossoms and 12 gold for desecrating the opposing faction’s bonfire.
  • Burning Blossoms: Burning Blossoms are awarded for discovering the bonfires across the world in most cities and from various quests. You can obtain a good amount of gold (5 plus 8 from xp) from doing the daily flame tossing quest along with 5 more Burning Blossoms. Burning Blossoms can be turned in for some very neat rewards.
  • Lord Ahune: There is a new boss fight for many level 70 players inside of the Slave Pens in Coilfang Reservoir. This highly gimmicky fight rewards players with some excellent epic quality gear both on normal and heroic.

Rewards

You’ll get about 500 gold at level 70 and another 500ish Burning Blossoms for discovering all 30ish bonfires for your faction and desecrating the 30ish bonfires for the opposing faction.  You’ll get some more gold and Burning Blossoms from the two daily quests and a good amount from the quest line leading to Lord Ahune.

There are about 800 total Burning Blossoms you can obtain for finding all of the flames and doing all of the quests and doing dailies each day.

Below is a list of the rewards you can purchase from the Midsummer Suppliers and Merchants who are located near the major city flames.

Quests

Most quests award a good deal of experience, gold, and Burning Blossoms. At level 70 it is very profitable (and easy) to do the daily quests in place of other gold base daily quests in order to get Burning Blossoms for the loot and the gold.

Level 1

  • The Master of Summer Lore (Alliance) or The Spinner of Summer Tales (Horde): Both of these quests come from various people in capital cities and lead you to a major city for your faction where you’ll need to find a Festival Loremaster (Alliance) or Festival Talespinner (Horde). You’ll be rewarded with a Burning Blossom.
  • Incense for the Summer Scorchlings (Alliance) or Incense for the Festival Scorchlings (Horde): Simply take the incense to the scorchlings outside of the major city. Awards one Burning Blossom.
  • Torch Tossing (Daily): One of the daily quests available for players between level 66 and 70. You’re given 40 seconds to hit 8 braziers while standing near the bonfire. Awards five Burning Blossoms.
  • Torch Catching (Daily): Go to the bonfire and use the unlit torch then watch the ground for the shadow of the torch. Line your character up with it and you shouldn’t have a problem catching it. You can also try to line yourself up with the torch in the air but that’s pretty difficult. Awards five Burning Blossoms.

Starting at Around Level 18

  • Striking Back (Daily): The striking back series of quests are daily quests dependant on your level. Depending on what level you are is where you’ll be asked to go and take on some Twilight Hammer characters near an Ice Stone of some sort. These quests award ten Burning Blossoms. These quests start from an Earthen Ring Elder at any major city.
  • Unusual Activity: Starts with any Earthen Ring Elder and leads you to the Zoram Strand. Kill the Twilight Hammer enemies until you obtain a Twilight Correspondence then use the totem to summon a wolf to turn in the quest and pick up…
  • An Innocent Disguise: Go to the northern area of the Zoram Strand until you see a group of Twilight Hammer enemies then use your Orb of the Crawler, walk over and listen, then walk away and use your totem and turn it in to pick up…
  • Inform the Elder: Return back to any Earthen Ring Elder. From here you’ll be either asked to do Striking Back or slay Ahune depending on what level you are.

Ahune

See this guide for more information on Ahune.

That’s about it for the Midsummer Fire Festival. Now head out there and have some fun!
