MMORPG.com interviews Exit Games' Tom Sperry.

Since you have to leave your house occasionally, it would be nice to take the latest and greatest MMOs along. Understanding that premise, Exit Games is feverishly working to make my little dream a reality. Of course my wife cringes at the thought of even more of my time spent on a mobile device, let alone an MMO. I for one am glad someone is championing this cause. While some of the information in the interview is up for interpretation, the following is indisputable from Tom Sperry:

"Competition is getting high. There are tons of MMOs in development. Publishers need to find out ways to make their games sticky as new and exciting MMOs emerge to steal your subscribers.."

He is right, the competition is getting fierce in the industry. With heavy hitters coming out with blockbuster titles, I doubt that they could/would incorporate Neutron. However, a smaller and more nimble developer might be able to incorporate this technology a la Elves and Orcs for a pint sized home run.

While I'm not completely savvy on the technology requirements, the desire is definitely high for some type of MMO-lite that would be a mobile-ready subset or portion of favorite games. The mobile option that allows a developer to provide real cross-platform access could be just the hook. I can't imagine what a Starbuck's would look like if we could all sit around crafting or using an in-game auction system. Starbuck's might require me to pay more rent than my $20 coffees would cover.

Besides the monster hurdle of getting a game developer to incorporate this technical aspect into a game, there are two other significant issues: the devices and the network. Read what Tom says about these issues and then determine if you are ready for a mobile MMO.
