The Field of the Dead is a rich hunting ground for adventurers willing to brave this vast region. Vanir Invaders, undead, and a myriad of other creatures reside in this land and each one has an assortment of named mobs heading up the pack. This makes for a lucrative opportunity for anyone looking to earn some extra coin or get their hands on some new loot for the high 30s to upper 40s level range.
(Note: All information is taken from the Epic version of this instance. Normal instance loot is a little less lucrative in both coin and items, but every item and coin amount here can be found within the epic version of the Field of the Dead.)
Boss
- Ymirish Wolfrunner (Level 39)
Location: (181,344)
The Ymirish Wolfrunner will summon 2 level 39 minions called Vanir Assistants to aid him in battle. This boss will also teleport when attacked making him a very annoying fight. This can lead to additional adds and a quick death if you're not careful. This boss uses electrical based magic attacks like Shockstrike, Shock and Shockblast. To compliment these attacks he also uses a spell called Magic Rating Debuff that decreases your magical resistance by 3 for 18 seconds. The last in a long list of annoying spells you have to worry about is his Fear spell, which can send you screaming through the valley waving your arms in the air screaming "OH CRAP WE'RE GOING TO DIE!" This also has the potential to cause you to aggro a bunch of extra mobs along your path to enlightenment.
Known Loot:
Vitalic Heavy-stitched Robe
Noxious Light Hunting Arrows
Spinewarp
Dark Ember Gloves
Zephyrous Tasset
Igneous Mark of Misery
Coin:
2-4 Silver
Boss -
Ymirish Houndmaster (Level
38)
Location: (86,546)
The Ymirish Houndmaster summons 2 level 38 Vanir Conscripts to aid him in battle. Like the last boss, this happy spirit enjoys teleporting around the field and casting Fear to aid in creating utter chaos and bringing as many nearby enemies into the fray as possible. Some of his other skills include Flesh to Worms, Pestilential Blast, Blasphemous Ruin, and a skill called Expose Weakness which gives you -5 head defense, so watch your melon if this gets cast on you. Otherwise, some happy spirit might decide to see if the inside of your head really does have a creamy nougat center. Be ready for a lengthy battle with this guy. Adds are almost guaranteed and you will spend a lot of time chasing him around the field as he teleports all over the place while you're trying to hit him making this battle a huge game of Whac-a-Mole.
Known Loot:
Noxious Short Bow
Subtlestrp Boots
Tenacious Heavy-stitched Belt
Coin:
2-4 Silver
Boss
- Audun Nightstalker (Level 42)
Location: Roams near coordinates (351, 492)
Audun will summon 2 Vanir Berserker minions to aid him in battle. Like most minions, these guys serve as little more than a distraction and they are easily disposed of. Audun will only attack with his bow dealing pierce damage to any target struck. He will also make use of a few spells on himself such as a self heal, Melee Shield, and Magic Shield which aids in his defense against melee and magic attacks. Overall, Audun is a pretty simple fight. He is on an open path which makes it easy to avoid adds and he doesn't really pack much of a punch. To put it mildly, you would have to try hard to lose to this guy. He is the 'Glass Joe' of the region. Fans of the old Punch Out games will get that one. Audun is also one of the quest boss mobs for the quest Orders From Kylikki.
Known Loot:
None
Boss
- Hakon Wolftamer (Level 41)
Location: (286,672)
Hakon will summon 2 level 41 Cursed Graverobber minions to aid him in battle. Like some of our previous friends, Hakon enjoys casting Fear and teleporting (bouncing?) around the map like a hyperactive Ping Pong ball. He will use several spells in battle like those of a Necromancer. Some of the spells you will encounter are Pestilential Blast, Blasphemous Ruin, that annoying teleport, and everybodies favorite, FEAR! Hakon has a level 41 wolf on each side of him. It is possible to pull him without aggroing both, but more often than not you will get at least one of them. However, it's best to take out both as Hakon's overwhelming fondness of teleporting and casting Fear will more than likely get it in the battle anyway. The best way to defeat him is to ensure that everything around him is dead before attacking and eliminate the possibility of getting a Fear induced train from hell mid-fight. Hakon is also involved in the quest Orders From Kylikki.
Known
Loot:
Frostwrought Decurve Crossbow
Salubrious Canvas Sash
Deft Bronze-studded Tasset
Heretic's Legguards
Unyielding Canvas Arm-straps
Coin: 2-4
Silver
Boss
- Werewolf Chief (Level 43)
Location: (345,816)
There's not much to say about this guy. He is a pure tank and spank encounter. Your biggest challenge when fighting him will be the danger of adds or re-pops in the area as they do tend to spawn pretty quick. The Chief only deals crush damage, which one might find a bit odd since he's attacking with razor sharp claws claws, but such is battle with this Hyborian werewolf.
Known Loot:
Noxious Light Hunting Arrows
Rejuvenating Canvas Padsoles
Dark Ember Belt
Twighlight Bracers
Invigorating Canvas Leggings
Coin:
3-5 Silver
Boss -
Bloodclaw (Level 43)
Location: (396,820)
Bloodclaw is located just a few steps east of the Werewolf Chief. Like the Chief, he also deals crush damage with his two long sharp claws. What is it with these werewolves? Bloodclaw does have one spell you might remember. FEAR! That's right, our old friend is back to haunt us once more in the form of Unimaginable Terror. These guys can't fight too well, but they sure know how to scare the heck out of a group. However, the only real tough part to beating this guy is avoiding a Fear induced train during combat. Once he's dead, he will drop an item called 'Fur of Bloodclaw' that you can click on to start a quest. The quest in question can be turned in to the Cul Chieftain for a decent cloak.
Known
Loot:
Fur of Bloodclaw
Boss
- Grey Wolf Alpha
Location: (461,726)
The Grey Wolf Alpha will summon 2 Young Grey Wolf minions to aid it in battle. Can you tell me what kind of melee damage a wolf with razor sharp teeth and claws like sharp knives is going deal in combat? If you said crush have a cookie. That's right, the wolf that you would expect to deal slash damage with his claws and pierce damage with his teeth does neither. You apparently get bludgeoned by his paws and clobbered by his teeth. Aside from that minor detail, the Grey Alpha Wolf only does melee damage and is a pure tank and spank encounter. Your biggest issue will be avoiding all the adds in the nearby area.
Known
Loot:
Vindicator Girdle
Vicious Iron-mail Vambraces
Coin: 2-4
Silver
Boss
- Dusk Wolf Alpha (Level 43)
Location: (517,705)
This boss will summon 2 level 43 Young Dusk Wolf minions to aid him in battle. Like the previous Alpha Wolf, this one also has an uncanny ability to smite you with sharp teeth. He is purely a melee fighter dealing crush damage. Maybe it's a grooming issue, the teeth are in bad shape and the claws are dull sort of thing.
Known
Loot:
Leeching
Billhook
Brimstoned Gloves
Tempestuous Canvas Gloves
Coin:
2-4 Silver
Boss
- Lieutenant Rhor (Level 45)
Location: Ancient Ruins (645,967)
Rhor is an overweight elite boss and will summon 2 level 45 Vanir Brutes to aid him in battle. He will attack you using his bow which actually deals pierce damage and hurts quite a bit. Aside from his arrow attacks, Rhor only has one other skill you need to look out for. Take a guess what that is. If you said Fear have another cookie. Like several other bosses, the real challenge with this guy is trying to keep from getting a lot of adds from his Fear. Bring allies for this battle unless you enjoy dying hideously and be ready for a long fight.
Known Loot:
None
Boss - Lieutenant
Vorr (Level 47)
Location: Ancient Ruins (553,1283)
Vorr will summon 2 Vanir Brute minions to aid him in battle. This big baddy is an elite foe so bring some allies for this battle. Vorr will deal mainly melee crush damage and use a skill called Crush that can deal additional damage. Vorr can also use a skill called Fire Orb dealing fire damage. One very tricky spell this enemy has is Charm and he can use it to make your allies turn on each other. If this happens to a member of your group try to have some crowd control skills on standby.
Known Loot:
None
Boss
- Thorain Redfang (Level 42)
Location: (366,375)
Thorain Redfang will summon two level 42 Vanir Berserker minions to aid him in battle. Oddly, this half-giant with these thick hands that look as though they were made to smash a persons body will deal slash damage. This boss will also use a skill called Find Weakness which will give you a -6 to defense rating for 9 seconds. Another skill he uses called Tag will reduce your health for up to 60 seconds. Thorain will also make use of a spell called Electrifying Blast which deals electrical damage. He doesn't cast this too often, but when he does it hurts.
Known Loot:
Icebiter Belt
Windsoul Helm
Dark Ember Wristbands
Enlightening Silver Braid
Unhallowed Canvas Cloak
Coin:
2-5 Silver
Boss
- Vanir Shaman (Level 42)
Location: (346,390)
The Vanir Shaman will summon two level 42 Vanir Berserker minions to aid him in battle. This boss is very fond of the spell Lightning Strike. He generally will chain cast this spell until he runs out of mana which never seems to happen. This guy either has mad mana regeneration or a bottomless pit where his mana pool is suppose to be. Aside from summoning his minions this is pretty much the only attack you will see out of this guy. Beef up your electrical invulnerabilities and you will have little trouble him. Make sure you have a competent healer and he won't be too much of a problem.
Known
Loot:
Vindicator Vambraces
Corybantic Girdle
Woodcutting : Ashen Walking Stick
Observer's Bronze-studded Gauntlets
Coin: 2-5
Silver
Boss
- Goremuzzle (Level 44)
Location: (612,465)
Goremuzzle summons two minions and a level 44 Conirocht Menace when attacked. Like the other wolves and werewolves in this area, Goremuzzle will attack you using his razor sharp claws and teeth that are shaped like daggers. That's right, he will deal crush damage. Aside from dealing crush damage the only thing this boss will do is summon minions making him a pure tank and spank fight. The fact that he can summon a non-minion to aid him can add some extra challenge to this fight, but if you have some crowd control or a smart group you'll floor this guy in no time.
Known Loot:
Windsoul Helm
Dark Ember Wristbands
Coin: 3-5
Silver
Boss
- Specter of Chieftain Ciniath (Level 50)
Location: (506,387)
The Chieftain fights with the skills of a necromancer. He will use spells such as Blasphemous Ruin, Pestilential Blast, Ghostly Rain, and of course, or old friend, FEAR! He also has one really annoying skill called Cripple which can reduce your damage by 30% for up to 9 seconds. However, he's not too tough of a fight and the only hard part to beating him is avoiding the adds that constantly path by him in the area. The Corpse Stalker zombies that stagger through this area can be problematic as very often they are easily aggroed and will join the fight.
Known Loot:
Brimstoned
Sash
Beatific Armbands
Eidolon's Robe
Coin:
3-7 Silver
Boss
- Specter of Chieftain Cemoyd (Level 50)
Location: (540,404)
Cemoyd deals slash damage with his attacks and uses a skill called Profane Blight that will deal a direct shot of fairly high slash damage to a target. He also has a magical attack called Mystical Torment and a melee skill called Crush which can deal a quick moderate bit of melee damage. The only other skill that will be extremely annoying is his Fear as he tends to cast that quite often. This can be problematic if you don't take out the mobs nearby as you could get sent screaming right into them.
Known Loot:
Twighlight Hood
Eidolon's Robe
Coin: 3-7 Silver
Boss
- Specter of Chieftain Bricriu (Level 50)
Location: (581,396)
Bricriu is a pretty strait forward fight. He deals slash and crush damage with his attacks. The only skills he attacks with other than a basic swing is with a skill called Crush that deals a strait shot of crush based damage and of course, like most of the other bosses he has the Fear spell. The fight is pretty much tank and spank. Just be sure to eliminate the nearby enemies before you attack as the Fear spell can send you running into trouble.
Known
Loot:
Heretic's Boots
Coin: 3-7 Silver
Boss
- Specter of Chieftain Talorc (Level 50)
Location: (591,368)
Talorc only attacks with his bow dealing pierce damage to his enemies. His bow allows him to attack pretty quick and deal a fair amount of damage with each strike. However, aside from that, he doesn't really have anything else in his arsenal to attack you with. Surprisingly, he doesn't even have Fear which makes him a rare breed of boss in this area. If you have a skilled healer that is competent in the least your only real challenge will be finishing the fight without falling asleep from boredom.
Known Loot:
Pathfinder Girdle
Dark Ember Pants
Coin: 3-7 Silver
Boss - Conriocht Leader (Level 48)
Location: (673,329)
This boss will summon two level 48 Conriocht Fighter minions and periodically summon level 48 Conriocht Elites and level 44 Concriocht Slayers. This is probably the most annoying part of this boss is his ability to bring so many enemies into the fight all at once. Make sure you bring some crowd control before attacking. Between the massive amount of adds this guy can summon and the spawns in the area you can very easily become overwhelmed by the mass numbers. The Conriocht Leader will attack with crush damage making him like most other werewolves in the area who bludgeon with their sharp teeth and claws rather than stab or slice with them. One of his most dangerous skills is called Lycanthropic Disease which will decrease your damage modifier by -5% for 5 minutes. Given the huge number of adds relating to this fight, this could be a fatal debuff if your group isn't on top of things.
Known
Loot:
Ophidian Leggings
Howler Hide Cloak
Corybantic Harness
Invigorating Tanned Fauld
Stormforged Heavy Bludgeon
Coin: 3-7 Silver
Boss
- Specter of Chieftain Munaith (Level 50)
Location: (750,255)
Munaith can summon as many as four level 48 Conriocht Adult's to aid him in battle so have your group ready to perform crowd control before attacking. However, if you eliminate his initial summoned adds he doesn't appear to summon any more. The Chieftain's main attacks are slash based, but he also has the Crush skill which allows him to deal a high damage crush based attack. He also has a spell called Righteousness that is a direct damage spell dealing holy damage. This is a fairly high damage spell so if you're healing keep an eye on your group or one of them might end up taking a dirt nap.
Known Loot:
Beatific Gloves
Brimstoned Sash
Eidolon's Slippers
Coin: 3-7 Silver
Boss
- Specter of Chieftain Nechtan (Level 50)
Location: (659,280)
Nechtan deals pretty decent slash damage based attacks. He also has a few skills that can put you in a gimped state if you're not careful. One such skill is called Defiant Strike that can give you a debuff that will add +1% to your miss chance. He also has Breech which will give you -4% to your slash, pierce, and crush invulnerabilities for 15 seconds. Both skills appear to have a fairly quick cooldown time. Nechtan also has the Crush skill that deals a direct damage blow of crush based damage and Rend which is a damage over time attack. Overall this boss is probably one of the stronger ones you will face without adds. As long as your healers do their job and you avoid any additional adds you can probably bring Nechtan down after a lengthy fight. Just don't get sloppy and you'll be fine.
Known
Loot:
Mark of Hate
Beatific Gloves
Coin: 3-7 Silver
