If you like to get hit a lot the Warrior may be the class for
you; the Warrior’s primary role is to absorb damage
not to dish it out. A good warrior is arguably the most
important part of the group puzzle. A Warrior needs
to understand the capabilities of everyone in the group, plus
have
good knowledge of the MOBs and the area where his group is
hunting. He will need to properly use his stances, special
attacks and tactical maneuvers to fulfill his various group roles. style="font-weight: bold;">

SOE's
Official
Description

The Warrior is a mighty combatant who uses his strength of arm and will
to ensure the elimination of his foes. A seasoned veteran of many
conflicts, the Warrior is an able battlefield tactician who inspires
his allies and leads them toward victory. Warriors excel at melee
combat but have little in the form of ranged attacks.

STANCES

Choosing a Stance
allow the Warrior to adjust her role to the particular combat situation
by
giving offensive and defensive bonuses.

Offensive
Stance

A warrior gains access to special attacks and combat chains. Most
combat chains are only available to the Warrior while in offensive
stance. The Warrior also gains combat bonuses when he is in this
stance. While in offensive stance the warrior gains a 10%
increase in damage and accuracy and a 20% decrease in mitigation.

Defensive Stance

A Warrior gains defensive bonuses allowing her to better mitigate
incoming damage. The Warrior’s attacks gain additional hate
and when equipping a shield the Warrior gains access to counter
attacks, which are only available in defensive stance.  In
defensive stance damage is reduced by 10% but mitigation and block
chance are increased by 15% and the hate generated by all attacks is
increased by 40%.

RESCUES

In Vanguard: Saga
of Heroes, players can choose offensive and defensive targets. The
defensive target can receive heals or be rescued if under attack and in
range. By rescuing a defensive target the warrior forces the enemy to
focus its attacks on her for a short period of time
allowing the warrior time to regain aggro.

SPECIAL ATTACKS

The Warrior has many special
attacks. Some can only be used when using a particular stance. Warriors
can chain together some of their special attacks to create added
benefits. Often chains are triggered only by critical hits.

WEAKNESSES

A weakness is a player created
vulnerability in your enemy that remains for a short period of time.
Some weaknesses can be exploited by using certain skills. When one
exploits a weakness the attack used becomes more powerful and may add
more than additional damage but may debuff the enemy or buff you or
your party. For more information on weaknesses please take a look at
Ten Ton Hammer’s href="http://vanguard.tentonhammer.com/index.php?module=ContentExpress&func=display&ceid=568">Weakness
FAQ and chart.

TACTICAL MANEUVERS

These are Warrior attacks that
normally do no damage but
grant strategic advantages. Examples of tactical maneuvers are
taunts,
stuns, and rages. The warrior can use short term stuns to interrupt
MOBs casting, Shield Wall to temporarily
stop most incoming damage, they can block their enemy’s movement
and force MOBs to direct their attacks towards the warrior.

BATTLE
CRIES

Warriors have a
number of commands and battle cries. Only one battle cry and
one command can be performed every 60 seconds. Battle cries are
directed at the warrior or MOB and commands are directed toward the
group. For example, Shout of Defiance will increase a MOBs
hatred for the warrior and force him to target the warrior for a number
of attacks while
the Charge command will give a damage increase to every member in your
group.

COUNTER
ATTACKS

Warriors have 3 counter attacks: Riposte, Smash and
Disarm. Counter attacks are a reactive attack that opens in
response to an
action. Warriors can use Riposte after a parry and Disarm and
Smash after a block.

GENERATING
HATE

Warriors can gain hate from a number of different
sources. They have a single target and Area of Effect (AoE)
taunt, two battle
cries that can generate hate, special attacks, their defensive stance,
and melee damage. Warriors also have a de-aggro
ability called
withdraw which they can use on their defensive target to help regain
aggro.

BUFFS

The warrior has a number of short term individual and
group buffs that increase damage, strength, critical hits, damage
mitigation
and more. The warrior also has a number of debuffs that can
be used to weaken their enemy.

IMPORTANCE OF GOOD TANK PLAY

Vanguard promised to bring back the challenge
to the
MMORPG genre. They have attempted to do this by lowering the
margin of error in group encounters and by placing a premium on good
play. Smart tank play is a must for group survival and
advancement. Tanks must learn and pay
attention. A solid tank is often what separates a
good group
from a bad one.
