The Twisted Heart quest chain involves the corruption of the Twisted Grove Forest in western Evendim. Wood-trolls have over run the area and with the help of Heart-Rot are now growing in power and twisting the very forest around them with hatred and evil. Longbough the Ent seeks your aid in discovering the source of this evil and putting it to rest.

The Twisted Heart quest chain becomes available after aiding a few residence of Evendim with a few task. Once you have one this you will need to speak with Longbough the Ent located in a small encampment in Emyn Uial known as Eavespire in the northwest corner of Evendim. Longbough is an Ent so he is a pretty hard fellow to miss. The inhabitants of his Twisted Grove have been acting strange of late as a new evil presence has appeared. The Wood-trolls of the area have been growing in power and this concerns Longbough greatly.

Hewing the Wood
Quest Level: 39

Background: Longbough believes that some evil power may be twisting the wood to dark ends, perhaps the Wood-trolls that have begun to appear in Evendim. Roused to anger, the Ent is ready to take action.

'My friends call me Longbough and suggest that I may trust one such as yourself. Hoom! I have not yet made up my mind on the matter, but I am considered rather impatient amongst my kind, and the trees hereabout whisper to me of deeds that may need doing.

'Something seems to be amiss on the edge of the forest, well to the south of here. A party of Wood-trolls -- led by one called 'Heart-rot' -- have dwelled there for some time, but now their power seems to be growing and threatens to twist the forest around them to evil and hatred. If you do indeed wish to aid me, seek out these trolls and winnow their numbers. If you can slay enough of them, then Heart-Rot should be driven to confront you, and you may destroy him, thus removing the source of this trouble.

'Hom! Ta-room! You are rather small though, are you not? I think perhaps it would be best if you brought allies to aid you in this task.'

For this task it is advised you seek a few allies. The creatures you will be facing are level 39-40 elites and in some cases you may find yourself facing multiple enemies. Head south from Eavespire and you will find the Twisted Grove a bit to the southwest. Climb the hills and you will see it descend into the grove. When you reach the grove there will be several Wood-trolls lurking the area. You can engage them here or just get what you need as you work towards Heart Rot. Head west and you will see a descending path guarded by two Wood-trolls. Defeat them and continue along this path. Keep strait until you reach a branch in the road. one path will allow you to continue foreword and the other will descend down a lower path to the right. Take the path that descends to the right and at the bottom you will find Heart-Rot.

The best strategy for this fight is to first clear the area of any nearby Wood-trolls. Try to pull heart-rot to the area you have cleared for battle. Chances are you may get an add or two so be ready to deal with those. Easy to do if you have a Lore-master just make sure nobody breaks the mez. When you engage Heart-Rot have your tank spin him so that Heart-Rot's back is to the group. He tends to stun and if you are behind him you are pretty safe. A Minstrel getting stunned at a key moment can turn this simple fight into a disaster in a hurry. With Heart-Rot's back to the group and the tank the only one in danger of getting stunned, you should be able to end this fight pretty quickly. Once Heart-Rot has been taken down a bit he will decide this fight was a bad idea and flee. Don't worry, you will see him again later.

Now that Heart-Rot is defeated, slay any remaining Wood-trolls you might need and return to Longbough.

Quest Level: 39

Background: Longbough believes that some evil power may be twisting the wood to dark ends.

'Hoom! I must learn more about the power which has corrupted the Twisted Grove and seeps into the surrounding forest. Return there and gather any sickened or dead plants you may find. From them, I may be able to determine what it is that we truly face.

'Hom! Ta-room! As you well know, the Twisted Grove is beset by wood-trolls of great strength, you would be wise to bring allies with you in your search.'

You will need to head south of Eavespire into the Twisted grove and collect samples of Rotted Limbs. These can be found as ground spawns or by killing the Wood-trolls. Once you have collected the needed mount, return to Longbough for your next task.

Instance: The Twisted Heart

Background: Longbough has joined you in the battle to destroy both Heart-rot and the Huorn known as the Twisted Heart.

'Hoom! From the blighted branches you brought to me, I have divined much. There was once an ancient tree in the southern forest whom I was once well acquainted with, but after the destruction wrought upon the forest during the wars long ago, it became withdrawn and would speak with me no more...even though my own despair at the acts of Men was nearly as great.

'Now it seems that the Wood-trolls -- particularly this one called Heart-rot -- have whispered long to the Huorn in its slumber and re-awakened it under their thrall. Its heart is now black and twisted with their malice, and it will suffer no living thing of flesh in its domain. Hom! Ta-room! Were that all that had transpired, I would pay it less heed, for the Twisted Heart's folly is its own, but now its roots run deep and far, ever grasping and twisting the trees that they touch, and the Wood-trolls will follow in its wake. I cannot allow the Twisted Heart to warp the entire forest to its will. We must stand against it and fell both it and the vile troll that has corrupted it.

'Gather your companions, for the Twisted Heart's power has grown fell, and I fear it will be all we can do to face it in the place of its greatest strength, but we have no choice! Ta-rum! Hoom! Speak with me again when you are ready to leave.'

The final step in this chain is an instance of the Twisted Grove. You will need to escort Longbough safely through the area. Make sure to gather a full fellowship as this area will have you facing multiple enemies and several elites at once. Once you enter the instance you will find Longbough waiting for you. When your group is ready speak with him and he will begin to move through the area. You will be attacked by multiple waves of enemies. If you have a Lore-master let them keep the crowd under control and be careful with AOE spells and skills to avoid breaking it.

A little ways in you will enter that small path that leads to where you fought Heart-Rot the first time. This is where it gets tricky. There are two things you have to do here. Longbough will walk down the path to the right that descends to where you first fought Heart-rot, but he will not be there. Instead you will find three large roots sticking out of the water. Attack and defeat these and Longbough will move into the water and tell you to continue up the path. Here is the tricky part. Heart-Rot is up the path, but he can't be killed until you destroy the Twisted Heart tree. It is granting him a regeneration buff that will allow him to regenerate 1500 Morale a tic. No amount of damage you can do will be able to even make a dent.

What you need to do here is two things. Longbough will remain in place so if you have a spare tank leave him with Longbough while the rest of your group ascends the path to the northwest. You will encounter Heart-Rot who will attack you, but ignore him. Keep up the trail until you see a large tree called the twisted Heart. Attack the tree, but after you deal about 33% damage it will become un-attackable. At this point have your group high tail it back to Longbough. The three roots from earlier will have returned and you need to destroy them again before the tree can be attacked further. (This was the reason for leaving the extra tank if you have one behind.) You will need to do this two more times. Each time the tree becomes un-attackable get back to Longbough quickly. Once the tree has been destroyed, Heart-Rot's super regen buff will drop and your group is free to waylay him. Fight him pretty much the same way as the first time and he will be down in no time. With Heart-Rot defeated, speak with Longbough to complete the instance and again in Eavespire to claim your reward.
