The Yule-Tide Tree Guide

Christmas may not come to Middle-earth, but to give the players a sense of holiday season, the developers at Turbine have added a Yule tide quest event. This quest begins in the Shire and will lead you through a series of events that will earn you your very own Yule-tide tree for your home that you can display for the holidays.

The quest can be obtained from the Stable Master in Hobbiton named Bogo Chubbs. He can be found at Loc: 31.4S, 71.2W. This will set you off on this Yule-tide quest.

Yuletide Woes

Bestowal Dialog from Bogo Chubbs: 'Why hullo there! I am guessing you have come about the rumours? Well I am afraid they are true: Lobelia Sackville-Baggins is the official Yule-planner for the Hobbiton Yule-feast! It's dreadful, simply dreadful, I tell you! She has already announced that we will be getting nothing more than harvest-vegetables at the feast. The nerve of some folk!

'Lobelia also told us that we ought to end the festival early this year, what with all the roustabouts that have been coming in...says it isn't safe for decent folk to stay up late outdoors. Naught but vegetables and an early bed...what is a respectable hobbit to do!

'What's more, no one in Hobbiton is rightly sure how she came by the title. For years, old Mad Baggins held the position, and in turn Frodo Baggins took it after his disappearance. Something isn't right about the whole affair. Do you think you would be able to help us set things to rights?'

Description: You have been asked to inquire among the Hobbiton-folk for an explanation of Lobelia's post as Yule-planner.

Background: It appears that Lobelia Sackville-Baggins is the Hobbiton Yule-planner.

This first quest will have you speaking with several hobbits around the Shire about Lobelia's post as Yule-planner. You will need to speak with the following hobbits.

Bogo Chubbs: The Hobbiton stable master at Loc: 31.4S, 71.2W.

Hal Hornblower: Just beside Bogo Chubbs at Loc: 31.5S, 71.2W.

Daddy Twofoot: Just across from Bogo Chubbs in front of The Ivy Brush inn at Loc: 31.3S, 71.1W.

Sherriff Robin Smallburrow: Inside The Ivy Brush Inn at the bar at Loc: 31.3S, 71.1W.

Hereward Loamsdown: Can be found tending the bar inside The Ivy Brush Inn at Loc: 31.3S, 71.1W.

Holly Hornblower: Can be found in front of her home behind The Ivy Brush Inn at Loc: 31.2S, 71.1W.

Postman Grubb: Can be found at the Hobbiton Post Office at Loc: 31.2S, 71.3W.

Ted Sandyman: Can be found near the watermill near the north Hobbiton Bywater bridge at Loc: 30.8S, 71.2W.

Once you speak with Ted Sandyman, you will learn that he was invited by the Sackville-Baggins, but he doesn't like you to much and refuses to tell you more. At this point, you will need to investigate his mill and discover anything out of the ordinary.

Description: Sandyman's Mill is north of the bridge over the Water in Hobbiton.

Ted Sandyman's unusual behaviour might suggest a need to search Sandyman's Mill for anything out of the ordinary.

Background: It appears that Lobelia Sackville-Baggins is the Hobbiton Yule-planner.

Searching behind the mill at Loc: 30.8S, 71.1W reveals an invitation on the ground. Click on it to collect it. The invitation is from Lobelia Sackville-Baggins and invites the barer to a very special and select Yule-feast. Take the invitation and deliver it to Wil Whitfoot the mayor of the Shire. He can be found at the Town Hole in Michel Delving at Loc: 33.4S, 75.0W.

You will learn that the mayor can do nothing because of a law stating whoever resides in Bag End is charged with the Yule-time feast arrangements, but the mayor will give you a new task in hopes of finding a solution.

This will complete the quest Yuletide Woes. Reward: 90c

The Book of Festival-Law

The mayor will suggest you search the book of Festival-Law in the library of the Great-Smials to try and find a way to stop Lobelia from cheating the Shire out of its Yule-Festival.

Bestowal Dialogue from Wil Whitfoot: 'As I said, there is nothing I can do to help you with Lobelia Sackville-Baggins, as much as I would like to.

'Your only hope for getting a new festival-planner would be to search the Book of Festival-law for any adjuncts to the existing laws.

'I sent the Book of Festival-law to the library in the Great Smials for safe keeping. If you wish to further pursue the matter, you should seek out that book.'

Description: The Book of Festival-law is in the library of the Great Smials in Tuckborough, far to the east of Michel Delving.

Will Whitfoot sent you to the Great Smials in Tuckborough to search for the Book of Festival-law

Background: Will Whitfoot mentioned the Book of Festival-law, which may contain more information about Lobelia Sackville-Baggins' supposed post as Yule-planner.

The Great-Smials can be founds in Tuckborough at Loc: 33.6S, 71.1W. When you enter, the library can be found through a door in the far back and left corner. When you enter the library, there is a glowing bookshelf just to the left of the door. Click on this to collect the Book of Festival-Law and then return to Wil Whitefoot in Michel Delving to complete The Book of Festival-Law.

Yule Be Sorry

Bestowal Dialogue: Wil Whitfoot: 'Ah, here it is! The Book of Festival-law clearly states that a festival-planner can be changed with a petition signed by no fewer than ten persons who reside in the town of the feast in question.

'Here, take this official petition. If you can find ten residents of Hobbiton to sign it, then the post of Hobbiton Yule-planner can be changed!'

Description: Hobbiton lies far to the east of Michel Delving.

Will Whitfoot has given you an official petition and has sent you to Hobbiton to find ten inhabitants to sign your petition.

Background: The Book of Festival-law holds precedent for removing Lobelia Sackville-Baggins from her 'post,' but it will not be easy.

With a new petition and way to stop Lobelia in hand, make your way back to Hobbiton. When you arrive in Hobbiton you will need to acquire 10 signatures to your petition. This will be pretty easy as you can retrace your steps for the most part and have the following people sign the petition.

Ted Sandyman: Can be found near the watermill near the north Hobbiton Bywater bridge at Loc: 30.8S, 71.2W.

Nine of these ten will sign the petition. Ted is a little reluctant so you will have to serve the petition with only 9 signatures. Once you have your signatures, its time to serve the petition to Lobelia. Chances are the old hag isn't going to react well, so be prepared to duck.

After a temper tantrum that would make a three year old holding their breath proud. Lobelia will say the petition will not stand with only 9 signatures, but before hope is lost, little Marigold Gamgee will run up being sent by his dad to sign the petition. With another fit of rage, Lobelia finally gives up and your quest is complete.

A Happy Hobbiton

Bestowal Dialogue Lobelia Sackville-Baggins: 'Well it seems your little plan worked! Fiddlesticks!

'Another party ruined, no thanks to you. Why don't you go tell your good friend Hamfast what you've done here? No doubt he put you up to all this, what with his precious Marigold being sent up here to embarrass me so.'

Description: Gaffer Gamgee is outside his hole on Bagshot Row at the foot of the Hill.

You should tell Gaffer Gamgee about Lobelia's foiled plans.

Background: You were able to stop Lobelia's plan to keep all the best Yule-feast food for herself.

With Lobelia's plans defeated you will need to speak with old Gaffer Gamgee. he can be found just below the hill The Party Tree resides on at his home at Loc: 30.2S, 71.5W. Speaking with the old Gaffer is your last step and afterwards you will have your very own Yule-Tree.
