Book 12: The Ashen Wastes Walkthrough

The Ashen Wastes is probably the biggest of pain in the butt of all the books.  The premise here is to recover Narchuil from the enemy before they use it for fell purpose.  In the process you save Laerdan, the elf lord, and recover half of the ring.  The other half, you discover, is far to the north, in Forochel.  The important thing about book 12 is to form a good fellowship, and do the whole thing at once. Getting around Angmar in this quest requires fighting a lot of 50 signature enemies, and forming a fellowship for part of this quest is just difficult.

A better idea is to make sure to have some hope tokens, food, and a balanced fellowship, make sure everyone agreed to complete the whole series, and do it all at once.  Saves a lot of hassle looking for a group for parts of the quest, and developing a good fellowship dynamic for the new group.

The Angmarim are acting feverishly within the ruined city, and a large force also returned to Angmar.	Search defeated Angmarim in Annuminas Angmarim can be found throughout Annúminas. Calenglad has suggested that you may find some information about Laerdan's whereabouts among the Angmarim. (Author's note: Anywhere in Annuminas will do, and the drop rate is high, so the main entrance is fine.)	24S.,85C

Speak to Forochon and enter Barad Tironn Laerdan may still be at Barad Tironn in Annúminas. Calenglad has instructed you to accompany Forchon to Barad Tironn to continue the search for Laerdan. Forchon can be found in Tinnudir, off the western shore of Lake Nenuial, in Evendim. 50	Calenglad	Chapter 4: In Pursuit of the Enemy	Tinnundir, 12.7S, 67.2W	Calenglad has sent ahead Gwathryn, one of the most skilled men of his company, to Tármunn Súrsa to spy out the ways of the Enemy.	Talk to Gwathrynn Gwathryn is in Tármunn Súrsa, east of Carn Dûm, in Angmar. Calenglad has sent you to speak with Gwathryn, one of his scouts in Angmar.	24S, 85C
50	Gwathrynn	Chapter 5: Strange Guardians	Tarmunn Sirsa, 12.1N, 32.1W	Gwathryn believes that Laerdan was taken to Sammath Baul, which is currently being guarded by the brutal Tarkrîp.	Defeat Tarkrip Poisoners (10) Defeat Tarkrip Jailers (2). Get the key to the Sammath Baul Gate. Sammath Baul is in Carn Dûm west from Tármunn Súrsa. Gwathryn has instructed you to thin the Tarkrîp horde and collect the key of Sammath Baul from Lozudurkh. (Author's Note: Head to 10.4N, 33.9W to get your defeats.  Then get the key.  The gate is at 10.3N, 34.5W released 50 elite ogre.)	24S, 85C
50	Gwathrynn	Chapter 6: Laerdan's Daughter	Tarmunn Sirsa, 12.1N, 32.1W	You have obtained the gate-key to Sammath Baul, and Gwathryn is prepared to lead an assault on the terrible prison.	Speak with Gwathryn and enter Sammath Baul. Gwathryn is at Tármunn Súrsa in Angmar. You should speak with Gwathryn when you are ready to enter Sammath Baul. (Author's Note: This is a tough quest, make sure to have at least a full party.  Leeches and crawlers add at the end, you should be able to pull them off your tank and squishies, while dps concentrate on the boss.)	36S, 76C and Laerdan's Defender (Medium Shield) or Key Finder's Gauntlets or Gwathryn's Longbow or Laerdan's Savior (Necklace)
