Guide to Human Enhancements

By Perryc and Darkgolem

Humans are the most versatile of the races in DDO. They can excel at any profession they choose, becoming highly skilled warriors, powerful healers, crafty trap smiths, and masters of the arcane.  In fact, there is nothing they can't do well.  Unlike other races, humans have a very limited number of enhancements to choose from.  Be not discouraged however, as there are other benefits in store for humans in the near future!

The Basics

A character earns 4 Action Points every level, one for each rank except when a new level is earned.  These Action Points are used to purchase enhancements.  Some of these enhancements have certain requirements, prerequisites that must be met before they can be purchased.

Human Enhancement AI

These requirements include that a character has achieved a certain level, a minimum number of Action Points have already been spent, or that the character have a particular enhancement or feat. Although a character's enhancements can be respec'd, it is a good idea to look ahead and have a plan on how best to spend the action points.

Dragonmarks:

Dragonmarks are a special case.  Frankly, it's hard to see how they are going to work in DDO, and that more than anything will decide how you pick your enhancements, since the combination of the abilities they give will decide how the benefit of getting extra skills is weighed compared to spending your enhancement points somewhere else.  If you have a very specific role playing build or want to be the absolute best at a particular skill, you might consider getting a dragon mark and then investing in the enhancements which give you the appropriate skill.  Otherwise, I suggest taking the “dragon mark dependent” enhancements only if you need them already.
