Jade Dynasty Dev Journal - Pets Overview

Posted June 26th, 2009 by Anonymous

From cute and cuddly to big and nasty.
One of the many fun, in-depth systems for players to explore within Jade Dynasty is its pets system. Pets are not class-specific, and you can obtain various types of pets throughout the world.

Every player will begin their journey through Jade Dynasty in Sunstream City. Here, amongst the other items you will receive, you can get your first pet from Pet Master Ellan. She’ll be hard to miss with her giant bear standing behind her. Ellan can tame wild pets or train your current pets. Standing near her is Pet Tamer Totto. Toto can free a pet or rename it. He is also the NPC to go to for any pet needs- he has a shop to buy pet foods, gears and Jades and other items to use during training.

Training a pet is a means of upgrading. Using an artifact like a Jade, Ellan will upgrade your pet to increase its stats and spells.

There are several ways to best use a pet during your Jade Dynasty journeys. Players can simply summon them to have them assist in combat. While in combat, a pet will gain its own experience points—you will not have to split EXP with your pet. Combat is never a bad option; pets have an array of spells at their disposal. Players can also choose to Fuse or Esperate their pets. Pet fusion allows a player and a pet to become one, sharing their HP pool, reducing damage received and increased resistances. Pet Esperate allows your pet to meld with your Esper, which improves the benefits you earn from the Esper your character is wearing.

There are several statuses players will want to be aware of while using their pets. One, there is Affection. Affection is the emotional connection between a player and pet, which determines a pet’s crit-strike rate and crit-strike damage. A pet’s affection increases every time it is trained, but a pet will lose affection anytime it is killed.

Players also should watch a pet’s age. Every pet will age, some with a higher life expectancy than others. Once they reach their maximum age, a pet will die and no longer be useable in battle. When a pet leaves you for the heavens above, it will leave you with a special gift!

After these basics, there is an even deeper level of customization for pets. Pets can be assigned to fight for you, forage or find crafting materials, and lastly craft.
You read that correctly—pets can craft, opening up a new set of opportunities. Stay tuned for when we jump into advanced pet features.
