Love him or hate him, Raph Koster is one of the biggest names in the MMOG world today. From the earliest days of Ultima Online, to the early beginnings of Star Wars Galaxies, Raph has been around the genre for as long as it's been in existence. Not content to sit on his laurels, he's jumped back into the fray in a big way by making his latest vision a reality.

Metaplace is a virtual world platform where anyone can create their own virtual place. Whether you're a young student, or getting on in years and looking for something new to learn, Metaplace may be just the thing you've been looking for. Gamesource's Massimo "Nolvadex" Villa recently had the chance to talk with the man himself, Raph Koster, to get the latest news.

GS: We tested Metaplace for a long time and we can say it's simply fantastic. Explain in a few words why Metaplace can be better than other virtual worlds. Which feature do you think will be the most appealing?

For at least 10 years, I have dreamed of creating a virtual world platform like this. Not until web technology really flowered in the last few years was it even possible.

The core of the idea for Metaplace is to enable anyone to have a virtual place of their own, for their own purposes. Users constantly surprise us with their creativity in designing worlds that allow for everything from political commentary to showcasing music. One world is a jewelry storefront as well as an interactive exploration of the Tarot. Another is an educational game built by middle-schoolers about wetlands reclamation.
