DC Universe Online Impressions

Based on one of the most popular fictional settings in the world, DC Universe Online has some serious potential to make us rethink what a super hero MMOG should be. But like all brand name IPs, the development team at SOE Austin also has to live up to the lofty expectations of both online gamers and comic fans across the globe. Ten Ton Hammer recently had the opportunity to see how development is shaping up, and whether or not it’s got that extra zing to attract a solid audience on both the PC and PS3 when it launches early next year.

From the outset, DCUO has all the bells and whistles you’d come to expect when first logging into an MMOG, though with a few subtle additions that make character creation slightly more daunting than it initially appears. As is the industry norm, some of the most weighted decisions you’ll make about your character are made within those first few minutes, but your options extend beyond a basic class, race, or faction selection.
