StarCraft MMOG Modder Continues Work, Blizzard Considers Employing Him

Posted Wed, Feb 16, 2011 by Martuk

World of StarCraft modder Ryan Winzen will be continuing his work on the StarCraft II MMOG mod after what Blizzard is calling a "misunderstanding" took place earlier this year. Ryan will continue development of the mod under the new name "StarCraft Universe" and Blizzard is even considering the possibility of offering him a job according to a report from Eurogamer. Ryan was previously considered for possible employment by League of Legends developer Riot Games, but it seems that Blizzard may be keeping an eye on the modder now.

"It was just a big misunderstanding. We just want to shake his hand and say let's look at this mod together and revel in the craziness this guy had put together. The absolute over-the-top amount of effort this guy has put into it is just glorious. We just want to say congratulations and good luck and please keep it up."

World of StarCraft, now called StarCraft Universe, was the subject of controversy when it was announced in January as a modded StarCraft MMOG using the StarCraft II mod tools. After posting a video of the modded game in action to YouTube, Blizzard promptly slapped it with a copyright infringement claim, having it removed. This led to quite a bit of controversy, prompting Blizzard to respond in a very carefully worded statement.

If you haven't gotten to see the mod in action, check out the video over at Eurogamer.
