Druid Guide to Utgarde Keep

Updated Tue, Apr 14, 2009 by Medawky

A run through UK for a druid can be a quick romp for badges and some decent upgrades depending on your spec. I will primarily focus on the aspects of this zone from a Restoration perspective, but fear not boomkins and kitty cats, you will get your due as well.

Trash

Restoration
- The trash in UK is fairly easy to heal through, most two pack pulls can be handled with rolling lifeblooms accompanied by a stack of your other HOTs. The four pack pulls will require a bit more vigilance on your part. After the tank has solid aggro on all four you will really need to lay on the nourish. If you have melee DPS, it’s a great idea to keep wild growth added to the HOT rotation as well. The drake pulls will feature a lot of burst DPS so save the nature's swiftness for these pulls.

Balance -  There is nothing significantly challenging about these pulls. Standard DPS rotations will suffice. Several of the pulls will lend themselves nicely to AoE damage. Make sure to mind your threat and assist the main tank to burn down the primary target quickly.

Feral  - In much the same vein as the balance druid, standard trash. Focus on the MT's target and watch your threat.

Prince Keleseth

Restoration - As with all encounters in a five man group, it’s your job to keep everyone alive. The only tricky parts to this fight for us are the Ice Tombs and the skeleton adds. I prefer to have the group stack up on the boss so that I can keep wild growth up throughout the fight. The number of HOTs you have rolling can create some aggro from the skeletons as they spawn, but they won’t bother you too much and should die pretty quickly. You need to make sure to keep the tombed player alive, and make sure to keep a HOT up on yourself just in case you get the tomb. Save nature's swiftness for the possibility of needing a quick heal to the MT after you have been tombed.

Balance - Here is your chance to shine. Utilizing both your heavy firepower for a single target and your powerful AoE will make this encounter a boomkin favorite. Make sure to nuke the ice tomb quickly and let your DOTs do their thing on the boss until the tomb is destroyed.

Feral - This isn't a very long fight, so switch off finish moves between savage roar and rip. If there are any AoE casters in your group ignore the skeletons and keep your focus on the boss. Everyone should switch to the ice tomb when it is up and you are no exception. DPS it down quickly and then return to the boss.

Skarvald and Dalronn

Restoration - Wild Growth is a must on this fight. Keep it up at all times and keep the HOTs rolling. Skarvald loves to charge stun you. HOTs make any interrupt based fight a druid specialty and this is no exception.

Balance - Focus on your group’s primary target and go to town. When Dalrann summons his skeleton adds, you can assist in the AoE with hurricane.

Feral - Burn down your group’s primary target ASAP. This should be Skarvald. Dalrann is your patsy as you will chew through his cloth and low HPs quickly. Swipe helps knock out the skeleton adds.

Ingvar the Plunderer

Restoration - This fight was made for Resto druids. Stay near a pillar and load the HOTs up. If you have a melee heavy group be sure to use Wild Growth often. As your HOTs tick away on the tank you can safely LoS the AoE silence by hiding behind a pillar. The transition cinematic provides you with plenty of regen time so don't worry about holding back.

Balance - Maintain max distance and pummel him with everything you have. Make sure to hide behind the pillars to avoid the silence.

Feral - Make sure to stay behind the boss to avoid the cleave. You won’t need to hide for the roars but do mind the axe in phase two. Remember that phase one is fairly quick and save your cooldowns for phase two.
