What's not to love about being able to not only pick your fights but
scare the wits out of your friends? I love to walk up to an enemy (or a
friendly, for that matter) undetected and then make him jump out of his
skin as I unstealth next to him. Whether it's in Dark Age of Camelot
(DAoC) or World of Warcraft (WoW), running around undetected
and all of a sudden backstabbing an enemy, or perforating
his artery, is a true rush.
For me it all started during a Dungeons & Dragons (D&D)
session with my older brother and his friends in a damp dark basement.
The thrill of saving my party by using steath to sneak by a nasty ghoul
and obtain the only thing that would kill it--it's life-draining
heart--got me hooked. Then came the introduction of computer games such
as Diablo, followed later by MMOGs (yes I am showing my age here a bit).
Many years after that fateful D&D session in the basement I was
introduced to DAoC, and boy did the infy (infiltrator class) catch my
heart. It wasn't overpowered as some classes were, but boy was
it fun to stealth up behind a group of players and at the last second
slice the artery of the caster. To watch them be working a spell one
second and then lying dead the next, without ever finishing
that spell, was very attractive. Not to mention, I loved the thought
of the "WTF?" comments his group mates must have made.
Then you have to consider WoW rogues and their ability to deal
a ton of damage to a mob, or possibly open the elusive lock
boxes for some cool gear. I am still new to WoW though, so
please forgive the lack of more love to the rogues there.
I look forward to seeing what Vanguard: Saga of Heroes has in mind for
the rogues. Hopefully they will have the best of WoW and DAoC whereas
they can deal of ton of damage and help with detecting/disarming traps
to help save the party. Meanwhile, WTB a Potion of NDA Lifting! I'm
looking forward to sharing more about the rogue class as I learn it.
