With the Kansas City Chiefs recently winning back-to-back Super Bowls, there’s one man's name coming out of everyone’s mouth, and that would be none other than the team's star quarterback, Patrick Mahomes. Early Childhood

Mahomes was born on September 17, 1995. His journey to being a top athlete started young. From early childhood onwards, Mahomes was raised by his mother after his parents' separation. However, Mahomes' father was very much still in the picture. In fact, Mahomes’ father, Pat Mahomes Senior, played a major role in shaping the football star's early athletic development. Mahomes Senior was no stranger to the world of professional sports having played professional baseball himself, which put Mahomes Senior in the perfect position to guide his son to greatness. The young Patrick Mahomes often tagged along with his father to the ballpark. This meant he was constantly surrounded by baseball legends such as Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter and he would receive invaluable advice and tips from the players.

Interest in Football

Coming from an athletic lineage made it easy for Mahomes to carve his path to greatness. Mahomes excelled in multiple sports during his time as a student at Whitehouse High School. During this time, Mahomes picked up football which became one of the many sports in his arsenal of talents. In fact, Mahomes was so well recognized as a talented young athlete in his many sports that MaxPreps, a college sports recruiting website, awarded him the 2013-2014 Male Athlete of the Year.

Mahomes earned a place at Texas Tech University for football and baseball. However, as you might well have guessed, it was his ultimate decision to focus completely on the sport of football. This decision led Mahomes to his quick ascent to prominence as one of the nation’s leading passers. He had an outstanding sophomore and junior year and won accolades such as the Sammy Baugh Trophy and second-team Academic All-American.

Professional Career

Mahomes’ professional career started in the 2017 NFL draft. The soon-to-be star was selected with the 10th overall pick by the Kansas City Chiefs. Under the guidance of the Chiefs' legendary head coach, Andy Reid, Mahomes swiftly asserted himself as the Chiefs starting quarterback. It wasn't long before he was mesmerizing fans and critics alike with his inhuman performances. For example, in Mahomes' sophomore year, he became only the second player in NFL history to throw for over 5,000 yards and have 50 touchdowns in a single season. This same year, he won the league’s MVP title. However, Mahomes' impact has extended beyond individual accolades, he led the Chiefs to multiple playoff appearances, six consecutive AFC championships, and four Super Bowls. The first Super Bowl came at Super Bowl LIV in 2020, where he overcame a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter. His heroic performance earned him the Super Bowl MVP, making him the youngest quarterback to achieve this honor.

Most Notable achievements

Mahomes took the NFL’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) in only his second professional season (2018), he would regain this title again in the 2022 season. He led the Kansas City Chiefs to victory in Super Bowls LIV (2020), LVII (2023), and LVIII (2024) where he was named MVP of all three of those championship games.

Patrick Mahomes has played 7 seasons for the Chiefs. He has thrown for 28,424 yards and 219 touchdowns. He was selected to play in 5 Pro Bowls. He has won 1 Offensive Player of the Year award, 2 MVP awards, 3 Super Bowl MVP awards, and 3 championships.

His life outside of football

Mahomes is still involved in sports even off the gridiron. He has ventured into the sports business, becoming a part owner of both Major League Baseball's Kansas City Royals, a nod to his upbringing in the world of baseball, and Major League Soccer's Sporting Kansas City. Mahomes’ spot on Time magazine’s list of the 100 Most Influential People of 2020, shows his influence extends beyond football.

Moreover, in 2022, Mahomes tied the knot with his high-school sweetheart, Brittany Matthews. Mahomes' wedding marked a new chapter in his personal life however he unwaveringly continued to inspire millions with his exceptional talent and dedication to the sport of football.
