The second in the series of community member interviews - this time, it is featuring Dungeoneer. Get his insights on the experiences, and hear what he has to say about the scene of the game for both the present and future. Not only is he a moderator of the unofficial but popular community DDO IRC channel, but he is also a coordinator for DDO Mystics, a German language DDO fansite.

Same as last time, the interview was conducted through informal private messaging, and the topics covered are: the person themselves and their history, their activities with the DDO community, roleplaying experience, attractions, hopes, concerns, community projects involvement, and what they would like to see in the future. Let's get to the actual interview now and hear what Dungeoneer had to say!

[Maya]: If you could tell me a bit about yourself, and your involvement with DDO and its community, that would be great to start with.

[Dungeoneer]: I am 31, and I am something of a coordinator for DDO Mystics, which is a German language DDO fansite, if you did not already guess that. We do the usual fansite things, plus some translations of diaries, interviews, dev postings, etc. I also post on the official forums... and I am a regular and moderator in #ddo @ irc.sorcery.net.

[Maya]: Ah, very neat. ddo.mystics.de?

[Dungeoneer]: Yes, indeed.

[Maya]: Is the German community for DDO very popular, or active?

[Dungeoneer]: I think it is the only (and first) German community - yes, I think it is active and friendly (something very important for me), but we are surely not in any way as popular as the official boards. Still, I am very happy with our folks! A lot of DDO Mystics content comes directly from the boards, which I think is fantastic.

[Maya]: That is good to hear! What attracted you to DDO the most, and what made you decide to pursue doing what you do with it? Do you have any particular hopes or concerns?

[Dungeoneer]: It was when Warhammer Online (the first incarnation) got cancelled... I really was not too happy about that, and after my adventures during my time at Horizons Mystics (which still exists) I was a little burned out of "world sim" MMORPGs.

And I was a D&D player and DM for years... AND I liked Eberron... and I liked the idea of a great, real time combat system and "real" physics in-game. Plus, the Turbine engine was already proven... after all the trouble with the unfinished technical side of WO, that was an important point for me to start another site. (whew)

[Maya]: I really like the idea of a real-time combat system with functional physics, too.

[Dungeoneer]: Yep. I thought... "hey, I'd like to play that," and after some threads on our board community, there was clearly an audience for it.

[Maya]: What type of player are you? Will you be focusing on roleplaying? Any particular role or style that you tend to like? Or do you even think many will roleplay? Many other MMOs don't have enough of a RP presence to support continuous immersive RP experiences.

[Dungeoneer]: Hmm. Good question - I like to have a good concept of a character, but I also like to build some parts of the backstory "on the fly" - so, yes, I will RP my char, but I also want to play a game. I will choose the right people. And I like barbarians!

[Maya]: That seems like a good balanced way to go about things. :)

[Dungeoneer]: Well, I don't like to type so much during fights... barbarians are THE class for me ;)

[Maya]: Do you have any interesting stories or experience that you would like to share? Or perhaps something specific you want to see happen with DDO?

[Dungeoneer]: I'd really like to see a group like we had in our Unofficial Official Community Campaign (See my signature)... that would be nice. And, I'd like to see Alpha. :D

[Maya]: ;D Great - is there anything else that you would like to add? Feel free to mention whatever is on your mind about yourself, your site, DDO, or anything.

[Dungeoneer]: Well, visit our site, learn German, participate on our forum... and... please... we need a redesign - if you want to help, it is very welcome :D Please bring beer.

[Maya]: Haha, ok. The learning German part might be hard.

[Dungeoneer]: Thanks for asking all these questions ;)

[Maya]: Thanks a lot for this little interview, it was fun.
