ESL One Birmingham 2024: Another 1 Million Dota 2 Tournament

The year 2024 started with some excitement within the Dota 2 community. First, a major patch was released that brought many changes to the game’s meta. After this, a period of major events began, including BetBoom Dacha and Riyadh Masters 2024. However, the list of the most anticipated tournaments will traditionally be supplemented by ESL One, which will be held in Birmingham in 2024. What awaits the teams and spectators at this tournament, and is there anything interesting about it?

Important Major Event for Dota 2 Teams

ESL Gaming (the organiser of the tournament) regularly holds events not only in Dota 2 but also in CS2, which has secured the title of the most stable organisation. No one doubts that the tournament will be at the highest level, including teams, coaches, Dota 2 betting sites and spectators.

For the Dota 2 community, ESL tournaments are always a “holiday”. In addition to Dota, the organisers are announcing various interactive events with the audience and, of course, everyone’s favourite cosplay competition. Also, the invitation format for the tournament in the form of qualifications allows almost everyone to get there.

The importance of ESL One Birmingham 2024 is not only the prize pool but also the opportunity for teams to earn a certain number of EPT points. The more EPTs, the higher the chances of getting a direct invite to subsequent tournaments without going through several rounds of qualification in the region.

Participants

The ESL Gaming have already announced the participants of the event. Some received a direct invite based on the number of EPTs, while others qualified and earned the right to participate. At the moment, the list of participants with direct invites looks like this:

  1. Gaimin Gladiators

  2. BetBoom Team

  3. Xtreme Gaming

  4. Team Liquid

  5. Team Spirit

Another 7 teams passed closed qualifications in their region and got the opportunity to compete in the main event. Among them are Tundra Esports, Klim Sani4, Team Falcons, G2.iG, Talon Esports, Shopify Rebellion and Team Heroic.

From the list above, the obvious entrants were Gaimin Gladiators, BetBoom Team, Xtreme Gaming and Team Liquid as they were on the EPT Leaderboard. Also, no one was surprised that the winners of TI 2021 and TI 2023 Team Spirit qualified for the tournament.

The rest of the teams qualified in their region, and in general, only the G2.iG team had problems since the Chinese derby was quite difficult (as always). A surprise to many was the Klim Sani4 team, which, like Team Spirit, will represent the Eastern Europe region.

ESL One Birmingham 2024 brought together a really interesting mix of teams of different levels. Both Tier 1 titans (GG, Team Liquid and Team Spirit) and newly formed teams like Klim Sani4 and Heroic will perform here. The most interesting teams are G2.iG and Talon Esports. G2.iG invited NothingToSay and BoBoKa to their roster, and pieliedie trains and fills Talon Esport with experience.

Schedule and Prize Fund

ESL One Birmingham will start on April 22, 2024. The tournament organisers announced a 1 million prize fund and more than 20,000 EPT Points that will be shared among all participating teams. Viewers can expect 6 days of Dota 2 content. The open event will begin on April 22 and will feature a Group Stage that will last until April 24. During this period, the first games will take place, and teams will be eliminated in bo2 matches. The more points in the group, the higher the chances of qualifying for the Playoffs.

Next, the teams will have a 2-day break. Well, as a break, for teams and players, it will most likely be media days, during which they will give interviews, shoot content for social networks, etc. After this, the Playoff stage will take place from April 26 to 28, and the finals will begin on the last day of ESL.

Conclusion

ESL One Birmingham 2024 is expected to be very interesting and hot despite the fact that it will take place in rainy Birmingham. For many, the favourites of the event are already clear, including Gaimin Gladiators, Team Liquid and Team Spirit. In general, this is logical since each team wants to score as many points as possible for the main TI 24 tournament.

There are also rumours that the prize fund may be replenished thanks to a compendium that has not appeared since the last International. How accurate these rumours are will become as ESL One Birmingham 2024 approaches. Regardless, stay in touch so you don't miss out on the most interesting news.
