The recent earthquake in Japan caused some major damage to the country this past week and the aftershocks are even being felt in the MMO community. The earthquake damage has shut down service for PlayOnline, Final Fantasy XI and Final Fantasy XIV. Starting today, due to power supply issues in Japan because of the earthquakes, Square Enix will temporarily suspend service for the two games for at least a week as Japanese officials work to repair damages caused by the quakes. Depending on the situation after that time, the downtime could be longer. Players will not be billed during the outage.

Our best wishes go out to those affected by the massive destruction of event. If you would like to help support the ongoing relief efforts in Japan, the Red Cross is accepting donations.
