The Narrative Design Exploratorium recently got the chance to speak with 38 Studios Creative Director, Steve Danuser about his views on transmedia storytelling, a method of connecting story worlds across various media to give players new ways to immerse themselves in fictional worlds. Danuser also discusses how 38 Studios plans to use this for their upcoming MMO, Copernicus, and the hand that media icons like Todd McFarlane and R.A. Salvatore are playing in the games development.

With visionaries like R. A. Salvatore and Todd McFarlane on board, we knew from the outset that we wanted to explore media like books, toys, and comics. But as we further developed the history and cultures of our world, we soon realized that we were building an IP that was rich and deep enough to give life to many distinct yet complimentary games and products that would fit together in a unified experience. So an element of my job is to keep watch over those ties between products--links that Bob refers to as "deep threads"--and ensure they all fit together into a consistent whole. Our belief is that by offering fans a variety of ways to engage with this IP, we will make all the experiences richer and more memorable.
