Recent months have not been kind to publisher THQ. Following a streak of financial problems that resulted in the layoff of hundreds of employees, a threatened delisting from NASDAQ and a shift in the development of their now former MMOG, Warhammer 40k: Dark Millennium Online, THQ is trying to pull things together and keep from fading into oblivion.

Speaking with Ripten, THQ Executive Vice President for Core Games Danny Bilson discussed how the publisher is positioning itself to turn things around, and what fans can expect from the new direction of Warhammer 40k: Dark Millennium Online. Bilson also discussed the decision to make the change in direction, which was made in part due to the inability to find a partner for the game.

At the end of the day, and I know for myself in particular, I much prefer the route we’re going down than having brought in investors, and possibly diluted some of the controls around it. When you bring in more opinions, things will change. That game is still sitting with the people who invented it five years ago, and honestly, they are incredibly excited about the new direction.

While Bilson remains optimistic, THQ still has a lot of work ahead of them to turn things around, and a successful conversion of Warhammer 40k: Dark Millennium Online from MMOG to single player with an online multiplayer experience is undoubtedly a big part of that.
