Tangleroot Gorge is an outdoor zone located in a different area of
Xendrik.  It can be reached by speaking to Wransyll of Vendykar
(standing next to a wagon) behind the actual hall of House Phiarlan in
their compound.  There are 8 "levels" of slayer quests, 9 rare
encounters, and 13 explorer quests that are found there, along with the
well known Assault on Splinterskull quest chain.

Tangleroot gorge itself is a jungle area overgrown with bamboo and
tropical plants.  The gorge can best be divided into two sections,
the bottom of the gorge, containing the Tangleroot river, and the top
of the gorge, a series of hills surrounding the gorge with winding
paths and connecting bridges.  The river section is dominated by
troglodytes, but also contains wolves and scorpions and an solitary
hill giant.  The top of the gorge contains goblinoids, some
spiders, and more wolves.

Adventurers to take Wransyll's offer to transport them to Tangleroot
gorge arrive at the One Eyed Bugbear tavern.  Immedeatly outside
the tavern is the gorge area itself.  In the tavern can be found
the usual amenities a bar offers, including a priest who will resurrect
those who die in the gorge, if so asked.  In addition, two unique
person are found here.  size="-1"> href="http://ddo.tentonhammer.com/modules.php?full=1&set_albumName=album26&id=Tangleroot_Final&op=modload&name=Gallery&file=index&include=view_photo.php"> alt="Tangleroot Map"
src="http://ddo.tentonhammer.com/files/gallery/albums/album26/Tangleroot_Final.jpg"
style="border: 2px solid ; width: 250px; height: 324px;" align="left"> style="font-family: tahoma;" size="-1">One is Eremic Quall, who will
(the first time you speak with him, give you a quest directing you to
speak with Chief Ungurz, a "friendly" hobgoblin chief (in that the
chieftain wants no conflict with Stormreach).  Eremic will
transport you to Chieftain Ungurz instantly, once you have completed
his quest of walking to and speaking to Chief Ungurz the first
time.  This
saves a lot of time when you are doing the Assault on Splinterskull
quest chain.

The other person of
interest is Demondris Melee, an apothecary.  Throughout Tangleroot
Gorge you will find plants (collectables) which have various herbal
properties.  When the harvested portions of these plants are given
to Demondris, she will give you various potions in return.  Three
lily blossoms will get you a cure moderate wounds potion, two
woodblossoms will yield you a potion of cure blindness, and a single
nightshade given to Demondris will result in you getting a potion of href="http://ddo.tentonhammer.com/index.php?module=ContentExpress&func=display&ceid=492">neutralize
poison potion.

Tangleroot gorge is an area full of conflict between two powerful
hobgoblin tribes.  One, the Splinterskull tribe, is hostile to
Stormreach and those who come from there.  They are dominate in
the upper portion of the gorge, and will attack you on sight.
Ungurz's tribe is interested in destroying the Splinterskull tribe, and
will href="http://ddo.tentonhammer.com/index.php?module=ContentExpress&func=display&ceid=409">give
you the job of doing so.

The creatures in the gorge are not particularly difficult.
Certain monsters are dangerous, mainly spell casters.  The most
dangerous are two rare encounters, Kornat, an ogre magi and Xassat, a
troglodyte hero.  Kornat, being an ogre magi, regenerates, takes
gaseous form, and casts href="http://ddo.tentonhammer.com/index.php?module=ContentExpress&func=display&ceid=261">cone
of cold and lightning bolt with profligate abandon on any whom he
is in conflict with.  Xassat will use fireballs and other deadly
spells.  Both opponents can be deadly to small groups of
adventurers who are not properly prepared for these sorts of
spells.  Other than these two opponents, your main concern are
minor casters using spells like scorching ray, and being mobbed by
groups of wolves or worgs.

Locations:

The following are
locations needed to be approached for explorer
quests.  If a rare encounter is found there, it is so noted.

Find the Temple Ruins
"Temple ruins rise out of the riverbed, the remains of some long
forgotten civilization."

This location is very close to two encounters.  One is a group of
4 regular wolves.  The other is a group of 5 worgs, and
occasionally  the wandering hill giant, Kurosh.  Very near
these ruins is a shrine, the only outdoor shrine in Tangleroot gorge.

The Sacrificial Site
From the blood and bones piled here, this is a sacred place to the
troglodytes, a sacrificial site.

Three regular troglodytes can be found here.

href="http://ddo.tentonhammer.com/modules.php?full=1&set_albumName=album26&id=The_Hunter_s_Fate&op=modload&name=Gallery&file=index&include=view_photo.php"> alt="The Wolf Hunter's Fate"
src="http://ddo.tentonhammer.com/files/gallery/albums/album26/The_Hunter_s_Fate.jpg"
style="border: 2px solid ; width: 250px; height: 229px;" align="right">Bone
Strewn Lair
: "The bones and sloughed of shells are sure signs of
crawling menaces within."

Outside this cave are 4 large monstrous scorpions.  Inside the
cave are 4 more scorpions, 1 rust monster, and a huge monstrous
scorpion.  Occasionally the rare encounter Vilesting can be found
here.

The Submerged Grotto
"The river flows from this grotto, as does a horrid stink, which can
only mean one thing: Troglodytes!"

This grotto is divided into two sections, divided by a short underwater
tunnel. The first tunnel has 3 regular troglodytes and a troglodyte
shaman.  The second section has more troglodytes and a rare
encounter, Xassak the Troglodyte Hero.  Aside from Xassak's
spamming of fireball spells, when entering the second section of the
grotto, you will be attacked while still swimming.  This prevents
you from doing many attacks unless you quickly get pass the wall of
troglodyte warriors barring your way.

Discover the Wolf Hunter's Fate
"You see the grim remains of the wolf hunter, who's felled corpse rests
trophy-like in the wolf den."

This area is strewn with fog at all times.  The wolves here are
sneaky and hard to see, it is best to try to pull from as far a
distance as possible, to seperate the wolf pack into mangeable
groups.  Many wolves can lead to your death lying ignomiously on
the ground due to trip attacks.  Be careful of Clamor, a very
dangerous worg.  Clamor does lots of damage, and can quickly bring
down an adventurer unless support healing is available.

Discover the Hobgoblin Scout Post:
"The Hobgoblin Scout Post is the first line of defense for keeping
intruders out of Tangleroot."

This is an area flanked by a single hobgoblin guard and wolf at all
approaches.  The scout post itself contains only 2 hobgoblin
warriors.

The Webbed Caves: "The
overgrown ruins are overgrown with webs.  A fetid stench wafts
form within."

The outside of the caves has 3 brown spiders (a bit down the path from
the entrance).  Inside the cave is a single encounter as soon as
you come in of 4 brown spiders.  To the right is a black widow and
2 brown spiders.  To the left are two black widow spiders (on
ledges) who must be killed by missile fire, though occasionally one of
them will drop to the floor.  On the left can also be found a
third black widow spider or a small brown spider, or Silk Weave, a
moderately dangerous rare encounter.

The Overgrown Fortress: "An
ancient fortress, half overgrown by the jungle.  Scratches and
stains around it say bugbears dwell here.

The approach to the overgrown fortress has a few groups of bugbears
(some on rope bridges, some on the path just outside the
fortress).  At the outside of the fortress itself is a bugbear and
a bugbear assassin.  The assassin will occasionally be
replaced  by a named bugbear assassin (who is not a rare
encounter) named Hgraggkh who is simply a slightly more dangerous
bugbear assassin.  You will note when facing the door into the
fortress a low wall to your right.  If you climb over this wall
you will either find another bugbear assassin or Jana the Lost Barmaid
(a rare encounter).  Jana was (evidently) gathering herbs for
Demondris Melee and wandered here, then hid behind this wall to avoid
being killed by the bugbears.

href="http://ddo.tentonhammer.com/modules.php?full=1&set_albumName=album26&id=The_Overgrown_Fortress&op=modload&name=Gallery&file=index&include=view_photo.php"> alt="The Overgrown Fortress"
src="http://ddo.tentonhammer.com/files/gallery/albums/album26/The_Overgrown_Fortress.jpg"
style="border: 2px solid ; width: 250px; height: 186px;" align="right">Inside
the fortress you will find a hall to your left and a door to the
right.  The left hall has two bugbears and a bugbear
assassin.  The door to the right will burst open soon after you
enter the fortress.  It contains more bugbear warriors, a bugbear
assassin, and occasionally a fairly dangerous bugbear assasin Jarek
(who is a rare encounter)

Find the Hobgoblin Battering Ram:
"This battering ram blasted open the gateways of many forts and towns,
making the way for merciless hobgoblin invaders."

This area is a strongpoint for the hobgoblins of the Splinterskull
tribe.  There are 3 hobgoblin warriors here, a worg, and a
hobgoblin cleric.  There is also occasionally a rare encounter,
Gharjat, Commander of Splinterskull.  Gharjat is basically a tough
warrior with good armor class.  The biggest risk of this encounter
is being feared at an inconvenient time by the hobgoblin cleric, or
being tripped and cut to pieces by the worg and assembled
hobgoblins.  Unfortunately, it is very difficult not kill cleric
at range without bringing the attentions of the warriors and worg here.

Chief Ungurz's Camp:  "The
hobgoblins here do not seem hostile, in fact, their chieftain beckons
you closer."

Chief Ungurz begins and continues the "Assault on Splinterskull" quest
chain.  Be aware that directly around the corner is the enterance
to the Splinterskull fortress, with some guards.

The Mouth of Splinterskull:

This is the entrance to all the quests of the Assault on Splinterskull
quest chain.  It has a hobgoblin cleric, 3 hobgoblin warriors and
a hobgoblin scout guarding the entrance.

Lair of the Burning Skulls:
"Something more than worgs lives here, the markings on the stone make
that clear."

This area is marked by (unsurprisingly enough) piles of skulls with
fires on them.  It has several worgs here, who are hard to see, so
be prepared to be mobbed.  They are spread out fairly far apart,
and small groups can be pulled by a careful archer.

The Other End of the Bridge:
"Across the gorge you see the other side of the broken  bridge and
the one eyed bugbear inn."

The bridge next to the one eyed bugbear inn would lead here, if it
wasn't broken.

Rare Encounters:

The following are
the rare encounters here and where they are found.  All rare
encounters give chests.

Gharjat, Commander of Splinterskull:
Cr 7 Hobgoblin Fighter, uses trip, high armor class.  Found at
Hobgoblin Battering Ram.

Kornac, Tribal Mage: Cr 8 Ogre
Magic, regenerates, takes gaseous form, uses lighting bolt and cone of
cold.  Found inside the lair of burning skulls.

Jarek, Master Assassin: Cr 8
Assassin, uses greenblood poison, and "ninja vanish" appearing behind
you shortly after vanishing.  Found inside the overgrown fortress.

Jana the Lost Barmaid:
Noncombatant.  Found next to the overgrown fortress.

Silkweave: Cr 6 Black Widow,
uses web at range (single target) and spits poison.  Found in the
webbed caves.

Clamor, Slayer of Hunters: Cr 8
Worg, does high damage and trips.  Found at the wolf hunter's fate.

Xassak, Troglodyte Hero: Cr 7
shaman, uses lightning bolt, blur and fireball, cure moderate (on
allies).  Found in the back of the submerged grotto.

Vilesting: Cr 6 fiendish
scorpion, high armor class and high damage, uses poison and
burrows.  Found in the bone strewn lair.

Kroksh the Wandering Hill Giant:
Footstomp (area trip), fair damage, high hit points, slow moving.
Found near temple ruins.
