Funcom released their third-quarter report on Halloween day which is incredibly ironic for a public company since it happens to be the one day in the year that we send out children out to impersonate hobos and beg for food. Here are some highlights.
The development of Age of Conan is on track for the revised launch date. The planned changes tthe game have so far been implemented on time. Funcom started development of a casual MMO in Q3 2007, targeted at younger and more casual MMO players. The Secret World, Funcomâs second large scale MMO in development progressed well and currently has a team size of 40 employees.You can read the entire document here. The colossal news of the day is the announced delay of Warhammer Online. You were desperate for facts, which meant that my name didn't make the short (or long) list for the job. Instead our own Garrett "ClarkKent" Fuller spoke to Mark Jacobs, the producer of Warhammer Online to get you the facts. Mark had this to say regarding the beta testing to date:
"Most of it was quite good. Some of it was, you know, not good. Still, the team had delivered the content it needed too. Unfortunately they had delivered it in the time line we had allocated for polish. We looked at everything else we needed to do before February, and we felt, okay there are two paths here. Path number one, we cut out some features, we cut out some content, and we deliver. Or we go to EA and say we need more time. EA said here is your extra time, go and make a great game."

I must say that I'm disappointed. It's not comparable to the time I was disheartened, downcast and dispirited over losing the Fonzie look-a-like contest, but it runs a close second. Warhammer is the game that I'm most looking forward to. Pushing it back drives it closer to the 800 lb. gorilla that we affectionately refer to as Wrath of the Lich King which I'm also yearning for. It also gives Age of Conan a jumpstart. I'm thrilled for Funcom. I'm dismayed for EA-Mythic. I like the members of both teams with in itself isn't that rare I suppose. I enjoy time spent with just about any of the developers.
Will the delay of Warhammer hurt or help the game? Will Paul Barnett survive another three months of video podcasts?
