You can pick up this quest at level 30 from the trainer in Khal
(Dulmier Shurdelra) or the trainer in Lomshir (Karaja Asasagras). I am
unable to confirm other locations of trainers who give the quest.
Before the quest is finished, you will be able to choose between two
forms: Form of Bones and Wraithform. The choice is permanent and each
has unique advantages, which I will cover below.
Head directly east from Khal along the road to Raia Village. You are
looking for the field of bones, which is easy to pick out from the
giant rib cages protruding from the ground. There are a bunch of hyenas
and vultures there during the day. At night the Restless Spirits will
spawn. By level 30 you can easily kill them since they were around
level 10. You need to collect 5 essences off these mobs. The drop is
fairly common but not 100%. I have to kill six to get my 5 drops.
Return to Dulmier Shurdelra.
This quest asks you to speak with the dead guard's spirit on the docks.
I'm unsure if Guard Duhamel is up during the day. The quest would
suggest he, like the Restless Spirits in Step 1, is only up at night.
He wanders the docks. I found him almost directly across from the spell
trainer area, on the other side of Khal. You have to pass through some
lengthy dialog from Guard Duhamel. When you have progressed through it
all, return to Dulmier Shurdelra.
Dulmier Shurdelra explains the two choices you have, Form of Bones and Wraithform.
Form of Bones
will make you look like a skeleton, adds armor class and hit points. It
also boost the damage you do with bone and poison spells, which include
Bone Spear, Bone Spike, Detonate Corpse, Plague of Infestation, Poison
Burst, and Sealed Fate.
Wraithform
makes you look invisible with a green tint and gives you a rune to ward
against damage and levitation. It also increases the damage you do with
spiritual spells, which include Dark Rebuke, Devouring Shadows, Drain
Life, Life Draught, Shadow Feast, and Torment.
Note: Both forms grant Enduring Breath and See Invisibility.
Talk to Dulmier Shurdelra again when you are ready to make your choice.
I chose Wraithform. Upon choosing wraith you will be given an item to
summon a 3 dot lvl 30 creature called High Reaver in the Temple of
Dailuk (susceptible to Fear and easily soloable). He drops some skin
which you take back to Dulmier Shurdelra, who then gives you the
wraith form. To find the spot to summon High Reaver, go to the
northwest summoning circle in ToD. It is a circle of skulls on sticks,
but it has to be the correct one for the quest to progress.
Regardless of the form you choose, you also get a book to study at 3
different levels. The ability to study is under your general tab. Each
minion you learn takes the spot of a normal minion and lasts the same
amount of time. Below are the things Necromancers learn from the
Manual:
Lich
Level 30
Plague Bringer's Ritual - Summons a minion who will cast a debuff on
your target increasing physical damage by 10% and decreasing physical
resists by 240 (does affect melee damage slightly). The pet itself
seems to do no damage.
Level 38
Ritual of the Servant - Summons a minion that occasionally heals the
health of you and your party. Again, no damage dealt to target.
Level 46
Advocate's Ritual - Summons a ghostly zealot who does tremendous damage versus undead mobs.
Wraith
Level 30
Plague Bringer's Ritual - Summons a minion who will cast a debuff on
your target increasing spiritual damage by 10% and decreasing spiritual
resists by 240. The pet itself seems to do no damage.
Level 38
Wraith - Ritual of the Servant - Summons a minion that occasionally
heals the energy of you and your party. Again, no damage dealt to
target.
Level 46
Advocate's Ritual - Summons a ghostly zealot who does tremendous damage versus undead mobs.
