Implants are an important portion of any character's gear. They stay with a particular clone of a character until that clone is pod-killed, or until that pilot pod-jumps into another body via the Infomorph Psychology skill. The bonuses associated with implants are often combat oriented, but there exists series of more industry-oriented implants. This guide deals with the 'Beancounter' implants, which deal with manufacturing and research.

Why Use Beancounters

Unless you go PvPing with all of your implants in, you are tremendously unlikely to lose any industry-related implants that you have. Because of this, it is quite safe to invest in a more expensive implant from which you can expect to reap long-term profit increases. Certain implants may be more profitable than others, of course.

Beancounter Overview

The following is a list of each beancounter type, and its associated bonus. It is my hope that this summarized list will prove more useful to industrialists than the full list, below.

  • I Series (Slot 6): Reduced research time when adding production efficiency to blueprint originals.
  • J Series (Slot 7): Reduced research time when adding material efficiency to blueprint originals.
  • F Series (Slot 8): Reduced manufacturing time.
  • H Series (Slot 8): Reduced refinery waste. No reduction in taxes, though.
  • K Series (Slot 8): Reduced blueprint copying time.

The Implant Series

style="font-style: italic;">If you would benefit from shortening your production and research times, then implants are a no-brainer.

Most implants in EVE Online have three versions, with each giving better bonuses and costing a correspondingly higher amount. Be aware that some other implants only have one or two versions, however.

Note also that there are a few implant types not listed here that were introduced in-game, but do not have any functionality. These include the 'Draftsman' series of implants, which claim to improve invention chance but actually don't do anything at all. CCP had the in-game company that makes them issue a recall, but many players retained them as scamming tools or collector items.

What Implant Is Right For Me?

If you are doing production, the "F" series is your sole bailiwick. Fortunately, it is a pretty handy bailiwick, helping to alleviate the manufacturing bottleneck. Especially where tech two production is concerned.

Springing 23mil ISK on the mid-level F50 version can be a pretty good idea, especially if you are making things pretty much all the time. I wouldn't necessarily go for the F60, but then again if I am frequently putting in lucrative build jobs that take over a week and have no expectation of losing that clone, I might. As long as you are going to be putting the implant to use, you might as well.

As someone that is constantly copying bookmarks, the "K" series is also pretty handy, and only costs around 18.6mil ISK for the middle of the road K50 version. The more expensive K60 is probably only worthwhile if you have a business model based around copying capital or supercapital blueprints, which can take months to complete.

If you have a POS or infrequently-used station at which to do blueprint research, the "J" series might be handy to expedite things, though this runs into the same problem as the "K" series, in that the time reductions are only meaningful where capital or supercapital blueprints are involved.
