Freshen the Air

General Strategies

Be ready for a fight each time you open a door, turn a valve, or smash
a giant crate. This quest is crawling with troglodytes.

Try to have a decent Will save to avoid the Hypnotic Pattern spells
spammed by troglodyte shamans. Bringing a paladin can help you in this
respect, but you have to stick together.

Heavily-armored melee characters with a good Strength score will chew
through the enemies in this quest with ease. Just make sure you bring a
good healer to keep everybody patched up.

Casters on this quest should look at crowd control options. Hypnotism
and Charm Person can affect the troglodytes. Melf's Acid Arrow and Web
will disrupt the troglodyte shamans and make them easier to mop up for
the melees. If all else fails, spam Magic Missile.

This is one quest where a rogue isn't needed, but the stealthy tactics
of a rogue will still be useful.

Section
1:
You enter an empty room and head left down a hallway. A
narrow passage to the right from the end of the hall leads you into the
clutch.

Section 2: Your first
battle comes as you enter the clutch and are greeted by a trio of
troglodyte shamans. Don't let them lure you further into their lair.
Have a caster hit them with web and mow them down where they stand.

With the battle over, you have the room--which is shaped like a plus
sign (+) to yourself. The door straight ahead is sealed, and the valve
that opens it is to your right. When you turn the valve, more
troglodytes will attack you. A few crowd control spells and some blade
work will finish them.

Section 3: 9 troglodytes
await you through the recently opened door. It is important that the
caster immobilize the shamans so that they can be killed quickly. It
helps to have one "tank" occupy the melee while some damage dealers
dispatch the shamans. Crowd control spells really cut down on the
damage taken in this frenzied battled.

With many dead troglodytes at your feet, you will notice that the large
room in which you stand is divided by a portcullis. A nearby level will
open it and initiate another brief encounter with troglodytes.

Section 4: On the other
side of the portcullis are 8 more troglodytes. Follow the advice in
Section 3 to dispose of the shamans first and this fight will be
easier. Proceed through the large room and kill two more troglodyte
shamans near a sealed door. Throwing the nearby lever opens the door
and gives you a chance to slay a couple more troglodytes. The room
beyond is huge and filled with monsters, so buff up and go in ready.

Section 5: Just inside
the door are 2 troglodytes and a shaman. Try to lure them back out into
the rooms you have already cleared. When they have fallen move in for
the big fight.

4 troglodyte shamans guard the crates you've been sent to smash. Good
use of crowd control spells can help this fight go smoothly. Smashing
the crates spawns more troglodyte shamans, so smash them one at a time.

Collect items from the 2 mossy areas and the rubble in the giant room.
You can raise the portcullis in the room to go up and through a narrow
passage next to the rubble to kill some more troglodytes and help
complete the optional objectives.

Section 6: On the
opposite side of the room with the crates from which you entered is a
small hallway with 4 more troglodytes and a chest. It's always worth an
easy fight to gain access to a chest.

Section 7: Back in the
large crate room is one more path on the wall with the rubble. This one
leads to the exit.
