  Old Grey Garl is the second of two chests found in the tomb of
the former pirate, Garl the Grey.   Garl the Grey was an
infamous pirate in Three Barrel Cove who's men lived in underground
ruins that now are his home.  After assisting a scoundrel by the
name of Red Tom in removing a troglodyte infestation (in the quest "The
Troglodyte's Get" the heroes are once more asked to enter this tomb,
this time to retrieve the booty of Garl the Grey rumored to be in the
ruins.  Red Tom believes the heroes will do this because they have
no choice.. Tom let it slip that they were entering the tomb, when they
were going after the troglodytes, and now they must gain the booty so
that both Tom and the heroes will be safe from in threats of the
leaders of Three Barrel Cove.

When entering this quest, make sure to be prepared with electrical
spells, href="http://ddo.tentonhammer.com/index.php?module=ContentExpress&func=display&ceid=208">poison
protection, electrical protection and perhaps firewall.  The
blackbones are both immune to fire and cold.  The arcane blackbone
uses lightning bolt and cloudkill.  The wight priests use sound
burst, and bestow curse.  If possible, bring death ward... Old
Grey Garl is a spectre.  There is a swim, you might wish to have
waterbreathing ready.

size="-1"> size="-1"> style="text-decoration: underline;">Upon entering you find the
exact same quest layout as found in The Troglodytes Get.

The first thing you meet are ochre jellies, next to the two poisonous
mushrooms you encountered before.  The hallway leading into the
water pit chamber has several blackbone marksmen, two blackbone thralls
and  a blackbone knight.  style="text-decoration: underline;"> href="http://ddo.tentonhammer.com/modules.php?set_albumName=album54&id=Garls_Map&op=modload&name=Gallery&file=index&include=view_photo.php"> alt="Old Grey Garl Map"
src="http://ddo.tentonhammer.com/files/gallery/albums/album54/Garls_Map.sized.jpg"
style="border: 2px solid ; width: 250px; height: 170px;" align="right">All
are quite deadly, since they are very resistant to magic, have lots of
hit points, and fairly high armor class.

Upon reaching the water pit, cross to the far side, you will see the
same gargoyle trap, and again, simply trigger the trap by opening the
chest here while everyone is forming a shield wall around an arcane
caster, who blasts (or preferably fire walls) the gargoyles into ashes.

Entering the water pit you run into several ochre jellies.  Past
the jellies and waterfall are two levers which lead past a door into a
long hall, ending with several wight myrmidons, two blackbone marksman,
and a couple blackbone thralls.  At the right is a shrine, and the
left is a door opened by a lever.

Past the door, thankfully there are no casters at heights.
Instead, climb the stairs, and one person should head right, one left,
to trigger two levers.  At the door at the top of the stairs a
wight priest and 2 myrmidons will appear, kill the priest quickly, and
keep moving if you have a low fortitude save.. the sound burst the
priest casts will stun you.

After the door you see a hall to the right and a door to the
left.  The door opens to a shrine, the right ends with a left turn
to the mammoth chamber.  If you travel down the hall you awaken
several myrmidons, blackbone marksmen, 2 monarch scorpions, and a
couple blackbone thralls.  style="font-family: tahoma;"> href="http://ddo.tentonhammer.com/modules.php?set_albumName=album54&id=Gargoyles&op=modload&name=Gallery&file=index&include=view_photo.php"> alt="Gargoyles"
src="http://ddo.tentonhammer.com/files/gallery/albums/album54/Gargoyles.sized.jpg"
style="border: 2px solid ; width: 250px; height: 187px;" align="left">
size="-1">This combined group can
be deadly. get out of the hallway and retreat to the doorway into this
hall, fighting them there, out of view of the archers.
After that, go back and destroy the archers.

The mammoth
chamber beyond is quite easy.  Two levers still rest at the mid
level (in height) of the chamber, at the end of the walkway is a group
of gargoyles on pedestals.  Of course they animate if you enter
the room.  You can choose to block the door and deal with them in
the choke point, or avoid the fight all together by feather falling
down and then climbing up and jumping to the levers.  To the north
is a lever on the bottom floor, when  all three levers are
activated, a wight myrmidon and a high priest enter the chamber from
the south runed doorway.

After entering the doorway, you find 4 ochre jellies will drop from the
ceiling.  Defeat them, and prepare for a fight with href="http://ddo.tentonhammer.com/index.php?module=ContentExpress&func=display&ceid=261">cloudkill
and lightning bolt at the shrine.  The far door (west) will open
to a room with a long pair of bridges leading to a platform.  On
the platform is a chest and two necromancers.  Kill the
necromancers by pulling them with bow fire back toward the
shrine.  Then approach the platform, which will animate several
blackbones including a deadly blackbone arcane.
size="-1"> style="text-decoration: underline;"> href="http://ddo.tentonhammer.com/modules.php?set_albumName=album54&id=The_Platform&op=modload&name=Gallery&file=index&include=view_photo.php"> alt="Platform"
src="http://ddo.tentonhammer.com/files/gallery/albums/album54/The_Platform.sized.jpg"
style="border: 2px solid ; width: 250px; height: 187px;" align="right">
size="-1"> Retreat to the shrine
room, and fight them there.  Then return to the platform and kill
the archers who rose from the floor.  Finally open the
chest.  One of the blackbones, a blackbone knight will drop a key
you need.

In the water around the platform you will see a grate.  Use the
key to open the grate, and swim into the grate, up a tube to a final
chamber with a chest.. be careful, the swim is fairly lengthy.

The chamber is the home of Garl the Grey, who is now a href="http://ddo.tentonhammer.com/index.php?module=ContentExpress&func=display&ceid=36">spectre.
A wight high priest and Garl will appear when you open the chest.
Be prepared with a firewall, and kill the priest (who is faster, not
being insubstantial), then Garl.  Be careful not to let anyone die
to Garl... they will return as a second spectre, making combat much
more difficult.
