A rating of 1 or 2 means the Feat is pretty much
useless to a ranger and one that you probably want to avoid. A rating
of 3 indicates that the Feat can be used with some careful planning or with certain class combinations. We reserve a rating of 4 only
for those Feats that are almost necessary picks for certain types of builds or class combinations. A rating of 5 designates the best of the ranger Feats and ones
players should seriously consider in any
href="http://ddo.tentonhammer.com/index.php?meid=5#Builds">DDO build
involving rangers.
To help you navigate the many Feats, just click on
the range of Feats below to move to that spot in the guide:
31. Lightning Reflexes
Official Text: "Grants you a +2 bonus on your Reflex saves."
Comments: Reflex is one of the higher Ranger saves, and most Rangers will have a high Dex, making this one pretty pointless.
Rating: 2
style="vertical-align: top; background-color: rgb(219, 201, 125);">32. Luck of the Heroes
Official Text: "Grants you a +1 bonus on all saves."
Comments: This isn’t worth spending one of the few Feats Rangers get.
Rating: 3
33. Manyshot
Official Text: “By activating this ability, you can shoot two arrows simultaneously for a time.”
Prerequisite: Dexterity 17, Base Attack Bonus +6, Point Blank Shot, Rapid Shot, Received by Ranger Level 6
Comments: This ability improves to fire three arrows simultaneously at Ranger Level 11. It’s a must have, but you’ll get it for free for just 6 levels of Ranger!
Rating: 2
style="vertical-align: top; background-color: rgb(219, 201, 125);">34. Medium Armor Proficiency
Official Text: “You are proficient with medium armor, and do not suffer armor penalties to your attack rolls when wearing medium armor.
Prerequisite: Armor Proficiency: Light
Comments: You’d be better served to take one level of Fighter to get this free as well as Heavy Armor, and an extra Feat. It definitely helps to be able to throw on a breastplate or some Mithral Full Plate when the going gets tough, or you have to tank.
Rating: 2
35. Mental Toughness
Official Text: “Increases your maximum spell points by 10 at first level, and 5 spell points for each additional level.”
Prerequisite: Able to cast spells
Comments: Rangers spells aren’t good enough to justify this. The best spells you will have will be Resist Energy and Barkskin.
Rating: 2
style="vertical-align: top; background-color: rgb(219, 201, 125);">36. Mobile Spellcasting
Official Text: “You are able to move about slowly when casting a spell.”
Prerequisite: Dexterity 13, Combat Casting, Able to cast 2nd-level spells
Comments: Don’t even bother. With the few spells you’ll be throwing, you can afford to stop moving to cast.
Rating: 1
37. Mobility
Official Text: "Adds a +4 bonus to Armor Class while tumbling."
Prerequisite: Dodge
Comments: If you want to go for Shot on the Run, or Spring Attack, you have to start with Dodge and Mobility. Too bad it’s not such a great Feat in DDO, but it’s a must for some of the best ones.
Rating: 5
style="vertical-align: top; background-color: rgb(219, 201, 125);">38. Negotiator
Official Text: "You have a knack for gauging and swaying attitudes. You receive a +2 bonus on Diplomacy checks and Haggle checks."
Comments: This is another one that’s not worth the Feat slot for a Ranger.
Rating: 1
39. Nimble Fingers
Official Text: “You are adept at manipulating small, delicate objects. You receive a +2 bonus on Disable Device checks and Open Locks checks.
Comments: This could be viable for a Ranger/Rogue, but remember you can’t Critical Fail on locks. You get an unlimited amount of retries, so it might be more worthwhile to use Skill Focus: Disable Device instead.
Rating: 3
style="vertical-align: top; background-color: rgb(219, 201, 125);"> style="font-weight: bold;">40. Point Blank Shot
Official Text: "You gain +1 bonus on ranged attacks and damage within 30 feet."
Comments: This is one of the only Archery Feats a Ranger doesn’t get free. This is a prerequisite for Shot on the Run, and I consider it a must have.
Rating: 5
