Earlier today, the jungler for the Copenhagen Wolves, Karim "Airwaks" Benghalia, announced that he was voluntarily stepping down from the team. It seems that after the recent issues involving head coach Karl "Dentist" Krey and Riot Games caster Martin "Deficio" Lynge, the team environment became unbearable for Airwaks. He had this to say regarding his decision to leave:
"Since the incident about Dentist/Deficio/Riot (during 1st week of lcs) the atmosphere in the team has been horrible but I kept tryharding and tried to bring wins for CW while hoping to see improvement in the team atmosphere but sadly it got worse everyday, I started to lose my will to keep playing with the team. For these reasons I shared with the team my desire to leave and asked them to find a replacement. I hope to have the chance to get back in the scene and wish best of luck to my old teammates.
Thanks to my fans for the support, and a special thanks for Youngbuck and Unlimited for giving me the opportunity to join LCS 1 year ago, and I want to add that Youngbuck doesn't deserve the hate he gets, he is a really good friend, teammate and brings a lot for a team, he is a true captain."
It can be difficult enough to be on a team that struggles to find victory on a regular basis, but once the team atmosphere deteriorates, it can be an unbearable situation. While this sudden decision to leave meant the Wolves had little time to find a new jungler, they quickly turned to former CW player, Ilyas "Shook" Hartsema, who had most recently played in the LCS for Alliance/Elements.
"It is with great pleasure that I today get to welcome back one of the original members of the team we picked up right before DreamHack Summer 2014, which eventually lead us to where we are today. Ilyas brings not only a high level of mechanical skill but also a large amount of experience to our team in a time where we need it more than ever.
Karims decision of withdrawing from the team left us with a very limited amount of time to find a suitable replacement, though I am more than happy with the solution we found. Now we need to focus fully on the remaining 6 weeks of the split and proving that we belong in this league."
- CW Chief Executive Officer, Jakob Lund Kristensen
It's been a little while since we've seen Shook in the LCS, but sometimes some time off does players a lot of good. We only have to wait a couple days to see his first match with his new teammates, as the Wolves will be taking on ROCCAT this Thursday in the EU LCS.
