Systems Designer Jeff "AdjudicatorHawk" Hamilton chimes in with a new blog today about changes to Star Trek Online’s (STO) Trait system scheduled to go live with the upcoming Legacy of Romulus expansion in May. The new system changes are aimed at improving the trait selection process by not making the choices permanent and allowing players to play any species and remain competitive with others. Species have been standardized to prevent the need for certain traits to be taken to be competitive with other races.

The new Trait system will increase the number of available traits a character can obtain over their career and works like a deck-building system. The update contains a number changes to several traits that have been reworked to improve a few that were perceived as lacking or weak. Players will also find a number of new class-specific traits available.

You can read the full blog to get the total rundown on the upcoming changes. The Legacy of Romulus expansion along with its revamped Trait system launches on May 21st, 2013.
