Earlier this week more reports of layoffs coming out of EA began to circulate. Some sites reported that the number affected was as much as 10% of the overall EA employee headcount, but Gamasutra sources have cast doubt on the accuracy of that number. More details emerged yesterday about EA's layoffs and streamlining plans when TechCrunch posted an internal memo from EA Executive Chairman Larry Probst. In the memo, Probst outlined changes to EA's core marketing which has been consolidated under COO Peter Moore and Origin moving into Frank Gibeau’s Labels organization.

While we still don't have a solid number regarding the layoffs, what we do know is that EA has confirmed that a number of cuts have happened in their company blog earlier this week. But it does appear that EA’s layoffs and shakeup have impacted several areas of the publisher ranging from its Labels publishing to its mobile development wing right down to Mythic, who recently lost its Community Manager Timothy Chappell, who posted his farewell message on the BioWare Social forums to fans today.

As always, our best wishes go out to those affected by the layoffs. And we hope that Timothy Chappell’s father wins his unfortunate battle with cancer.
