Final Fantasy XIV's will celebrate its first anniversary on September 30th and Producer/Director Naoki Yoshida plans to address the players via YouTube.

One year ago this Friday Square Enix launched their massively multiplayer online roleplaying game, Final Fantasy XIV, to a waiting playerbase that met it with a lukewarm reaction. With the game's one-year anniversary approaching, a quick reflection will show how far it has come since its troubled 2010 launch.

Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada has not tried to hide what he believes has been a problematic launch for Square Enix. Last year he stated that the company would like to put their "full power into regaining trust" of its players and even earlier this week indicated that the entire Final Fantasy brand was "greatly damaged" by Final Fantasy XIV. Square Enix replaced most of the Final Fantasy XIV leadership team following the game's rough launch late last year, but despite the problems, game issues and apparent financial woes due in part to the decision not to charge a subscription until the game was to a certain point, Final Fantasy XIV has managed to survive its first year and the game is stronger for it.

Since Naoki Yoshida took over as the game's producer/director last December, Final Fantasy XIV has undergone extensive changes under his guidance. Yoshida hasn’t been shy about meeting challenges to improve the game and on October 4th he plans to address the players via a live YouTube “Final Fantasy XIV Letter from the Producer” broadcast. During the broadcast, Yoshida will answer questions sent in by players and discuss the future of Final Fantasy XIV.

You can watch Yoshida's live address on YouTube October 4th at 5:00pm PDT. More details about the event will be announed later.
