The 2015 League of Legends World Championships began yesterday with the group stage, and it has already posted some staggering numbers. While the tournament is broadcast on a number of different platforms, over 3 million viewers tuned in just from twitch.tv alone, according to data tracking website Social Blade.

This is an extremely impressive number, especially when we consider that this is only the first day of a competition that will span several weeks. Then, when we consider that it was on a Thursday, it's entirely possible viewership will spike even higher on the weekend.

There have already been some incredibly entertaining matches and surprising upsets, so make sure to catch the games on Riot's Twitch channel live, or on the re-broadcast each day at 7:00pm Eastern time.
