Former Mythic Founder Mark Jacobs Launches New Game Development Studio

<p>Former Mythic Entertainment founder Mark Jacobs has returned to the gaming scene and founded a new game development studio.

Former Mythic Entertainment co-founder Mark Jacobs has resurfaced after his mysterious departure from EA Mythic in 2009. According to a report from Forbes, Jacobs has founded a new video game development studio called City State Entertainment. The report indicates that the studio has been operating “incognito” since opening in early March. The new studio will create games for mobile devices and social networking.

Jacobs co-founded Mythic Entertainment, which was acquired by EA in 2006. His departure from what was at the time EA Mythic (now BioWare Mythic) was mysterious to say the least, but some of what led to the departure was revealed in his personal blog. As for the new studio, Jacobs explained to Forbes one of the reasons he chose to start anew.

“I’m tired of strings and being told what to do by other people,” said Jacobs in an exclusive interview with Forbes.com. “[At City State], we’re a very collaborative group where we talk about everything, and that’s what you need if you really want to be successful.”

Under Jacobs, Mythic Entertainment developed Dark Age of Camelot and Warhammer Online. But what he has in store for the future has yet to be revealed, but Jacobs is looking to build something with a fresh perspective. He’s hired some people that have never played an MMOG before and wants a good mix of opinions on the developer’s projects.

City State Entertainment is currently developing a title for iOS and Android devices expected to release in Q4 2011.
