During the Spring Split, Team Liquid used substitute AD Carry Yuri "KEITHMCBRIEF" Jew as they waited for the arrival of Piglet. KEITH played exceptionally well, and was periodically given starts in the LCS as Piglet struggled to acclimate to his new surroundings. It was well known that this was a temporary situation, as the starting position was guaranteed for Piglet. However, the competition seemed to help, as once Piglet earned his spot full-time, he performed significantly better. It seems Team SoloMid is hopeful that their own star ADC, Jason "WildTurtle" Tran, will benefit from the competition in light of his recent struggles. A statement from TSM reads:

We are announcing a brief tryout period with Yuri “KEITHMCBRIEF” Jew for our AD Carry Position starting this week. KEITH will be staying at the TSM house and will be splitting scrims with Jason “WildTurtle” Tran during this tryout period. We make this decision with the intent to let WildTurtle take a step back from the game to evaluate and find a way to improve on his recent gameplay. Our wish is to allow Turtle a fair chance and motivate him to get back into his old form.

As of this moment, WildTurtle is still the starting AD Carry for TSM. KEITHMCBRIEF will only partake in scrims. Any future changes will be made in accordance with Riot’s ruleset and announced after approval.

This certainly sounds like TSM doesn't really plan on benching WildTurtle, but they're hopeful that having to fight for his spot will help re-ignite the drive he may have been lacking. With that said, if KEITH consistently out-performs WildTurtle during these scrims, it could cause the team to have to make a very difficult decision. Turtle's all-in style and infectious smile have made him a fan favorite, but he has struggled to perform at a consistently high level for a while now. Whether or not KEITH actually has a chance of winning the starting job is unclear, but even if he can't, it seems inevitable that some team will want him in their every day lineup at some point. For now, we'll have to wait and see if that team is TSM.
