There was a very noticable absence during the first week of the EU LCS Summer Split, as popular caster Martin "Deficio" Lynge was not present, with no real explanation given. Now, we know this was due to Lynge being under investigation with some pretty serious charges being reviewed.

Allegations that Deficio had leaked SK Gaming's in-game strategy to their opponents, the Copenhagen Wolves led to his removal from the broadcast, and the match being delayed until later in the day. Fortunately, Riot Games' official investigation did not reveal any evidence that Deficio had done anything of the sort. Apparently, CW's head coach, Karl “Dentist” Krey, had lied to the team, telling them he had inside information from Deficio. This is certainly a shady move, one presumably designed to help his team feel better about their chances in the game. However, when confronted about this by Riot, Dentist originally lied and denied this had happened, until he was presented with evidence to the contrary. Due to his obstruction of the investigation, and involvement with another offense (described below), Krey is suspended from the LCS until Week 4.

Unfortunately, despite being uninvolved with leaking of information, Deficio did not emergy from this situation squeaky clean. During the investigation, Riot became aware that the Wolves had offered Deficio a management position after the 2015 season, and the two sides had been discussing this position for the past 6 weeks. While this is not unusual on its own, Lynge did not inform Riot about this offer in a timely manner (as is expected in this situation), and he also had begun speaking with both active LCS players and free agents about the possibility of joining CW. This constitutes tampering, and when combined with a perceived breach of trust due to not informing his employer of the offer from CW, has resulted in suspension from on-air activities until Week 4. Once he comes back, Deficio will not cast any games played by the Copenhagen Wolves, to avoid any conflict of interest. In addition, there will be internal penalties that will not be disclosed to the public.

It doesn't stop there for Deficio. This is taken word for word from Riot's official statement, as I feel it's important to maintain the integrity and exact message:

Furthermore, we will be restricting Deficio from being approved as a Team Member (player, coach, manager, or owner) for any LCS team for the rest of the 2015 and the entirety of the 2016 season. This does not prevent him from joining an external organization in another capacity, but given the breach of trust we feel that this ruling is important to protect the competitive integrity of the LCS and to demonstrate our intolerance for any tampering or inappropriate influence over any LCS games, teams or organizations.

It's truly unfortunate that these things occurred the way they did. Deficio is extremely popular with fans, and due to some poor judgment calls, will not be on air until week 4, in addition to suffering punishments that will affect him personally. It's sad that it had to happen this way, but hopefully this will encourage other teams, players, and even Rioters to act with more transparency and integrity.
