Star Trek is notorious for killing off the unfortunate red shirt now and again, but this week Star Trek Online is showing appreciation to those poor souls that take so much abuse and often times meet their end at the hands of a hostile alien, exploding rocks or just random lightning bolts (it happens). Today is the start of Junior Officer Appreciation Weekend in Star Trek Online and players will have the added benefit of speaking with their duty officer contact this weekend to receive up to a 50% bonus to all duty officer assignment Commendation Experience Points.

As an added bonus, players will also receive a free purple quality duty officer with a unique active roster power and C-Store duty officer packs opened during the event will also have a free additional green quality or better duty officer inside. Though you may hear complaints from the officer about how they got inside that bag in the first place, but I digress. This weekend’s event will also bring new super-rare duty officers to C-Store packs.

The event starts today and will conclude on December 19th, 2011.
