Old school FPS gamers are likely familiar with the many games bearing the Tom Clancy name. From the Rainbow Six series to Ghost Recon, most shooter fans have at some point played at least one of the many Tom Clancy titles.

Online gaming fans will soon have the chance to get a bigger taste Clancy. Ubisoft today announced details about a new multi-player, third-person, cover-based tactical shooter titled Ghost Recon Online. The game is being developed by Ubisoft Singapore and will utilize the free-to-play model with microtransaction premium items.

Details for the game are a bit slim but according to the Ghost Recon Online Facebook page and press release, players will be able to choose between three classes: Assault, Specialist and Recon, each with their own specific abilities. Players can power up their class using the game's persistent character system and unlock new skills and equipment.

Closed beta signups are now available along with a new trailer on the official Ghost Recon Online website. Ghost Recon Online's closed beta is scheduled to begin later this summer.
