Richard Garriott has been teasing a mysterious reveal all this week and earlier today he sat down for a chat with Rooster Teeth to announce his new multiplayer RPG, Shroud of the Avatar: Forsaken Virtues. Garriott is seeking to crowdfund the new title, which will harken back to the earlier games of Ultima. While Garriott is no longer able to create Ultima games since the IP is owned by EA, this title aims to be in the same vein as his previous work and somewhat of a spiritual successor.

According to Kickstarter, Shroud of the Avatar will contain a classless character system, persistent shared world player housing, deep original fiction, physical game components (map, fiction manuals, and trinkets), PvP, crafting, and more.

Garriott is seeking a $1,000,000 pledge goal on Kickstarter. If funded, the game will be available for PC, Mac, and Linux. Stay tuned and we’ll update you when we have more.
