Keep fighting the good fight until we tell you to go away.

Even though Hellgate:London isn't officially an MMO, it still has players with feelings. Those feelings have been drug though the mud these last few months as the game goes in and out of bankruptcy and ownerships. Announced today, the latest owners of the franchise, NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc. (come on, all caps and that many names in the company title, really?), have announced that they will be graciously continuing the server operation for HG:L until January 31st, 2009. At which time they will sever the connection. Here is how they said it:

NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc., today announced that they will continue to support customers of PC game Hellgate™: London with online server support and play through January 31, 2009 despite the closure of Flagship Studios. In a further gesture of support, Namco Bandai Games will provide this server support free of charge to all fans and players of the game up until the shut down date.

NAMCO BANDAI Games appreciate the enthusiasm of all the Hellgate: London players and looks forward to providing them with future entertainment products.

So many questions pop into my mind, like "why would I play this game anymore if it all gets wiped in 90 days?" and "Why would I look forward to buying future entertainment products from a company that is severing my ties with a game I like?" I understand that they aren't making any money (or any real money) for providing the game, but it seems odd that they would have gone to all of the trouble to get the title only to can it this quickly. Were they sold a bill of goods? Were we? Let's discuss.
