The folks behind the HeroEngine unveiled some pretty impressive statistics at this year's Game Developers Conference, foremost of which is the ability to support "large, seamless worlds" on single servers. By large, they mean over 100,000 users on a single shard. What does this mean for the gaming public? Think of an EVE Online type of single server world in a whole variety of MMOs, including ZeniMax Online's project and Star Wars: The Old Republic.

"There is no limit on how large a single seamless world can be," Simutronics explains, adding that the worlds themselves can be instanced as needed for specific requirements. HeroEngine is currently being used by BioWare on its Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO.

Simutronics also says it will continue developing scalability features between worlds to increase the maximum capacity per shard over time.
