Cyan Worlds reaches agreement to retain Myst Online.
In a letter to the world, Chogan of Cyan Worlds provides the roadmap that will bring Myst Online back online. While the cheers are being sung, Chogan does point out some issues as they clear the cobwebs and dust bunnies off the boxes through:
"We've got some good news. GameTap and Cyan Worlds have reached an agreement that would return the rights of Myst Online to Cyan Worlds! We're very excited, but at the same time, there are some hurdles to overcome. Cyan Worlds is currently operating at a reduced capacity. We're not in a position where we have plenty of resources and people to bring MO back fast and furiously. But we've got a plan, and we'd like to run it past you - our fans and supporters."
Promising to fire up the servers and forums, Cyan Worlds appears to be moving as quickly (yet prudently) as possible. From the content and tone of the forum posts, Cyan Worlds is rolling up its sleeves and will need the community to do the same for this grass roots revival. Cyan Worlds provides detailed methods for handing over portions of the operations to the fans themselves. Again, while this may appear to be purely cost containment, these ideas may also provide a boon to the fans that are ready, willing and able to provide user-based content and support to the game they play. These efforts are needed and appreciated by the developer and contributing fan base, but also provide benefits to the rest of the community. A virtual win-win-win scenario.
More information and the rest of the roadmap can be found on their forums.
