We first witnessed the awesome potential of PlanetSide 2 on the latest Sony hardware – aka the PlayStation 4 – roughly a year ago. At that point, many of the game’s existing building blocks were represented in the client, but there were still some technical hurdles with optimization to insure the game would continue to run at stable framerates once more players were actively adding to the on-screen chaos.

In the time since, the team at Daybreak Game Company have refined the experience to a sharpened point. The studio is now on the verge of embarking on the next great chapter in PlanetSide 2 history with the official launch date on PS4 finally revealed. On June 23, 2015 gamers in North America and Europe will be able to witness the awesome spectacle for free right from the comfort of their swank living rooms.

Not only is the game a free download, but there will also be no PlayStation Plus membership requirement to play. This is definitely the right move for the title, as it removes another potential barrier for entry. The magic of PlanetSide 2 is its potential for truly massive battles to break out, so the easier it is for players to participate, the better the game ultimately becomes.

Mind you, there is an optional subscription membership involved.

PlanetSide 2 is currently in Closed Beta and will be available on the PS4 in June with optional in-game purchases via digital download. For players who are interested in an enhanced PlanetSide 2 experience, a Membership option will be available for USD $14.99/month and will include a monthly Battle Cash grant, increased experience, cert, and resource gains, discounts in the marketplace, exclusive promotions, and access to a monthly double experience weekend event.  Additionally, Members will receive priority log-in queue access.

There is still time to dive into the closed beta to check things out prior to the June 23 launch date. To sign up and find out more details for PS2 on PS4, be sure to gallop your mighty steed over to the official website
