Star Trek Online: Atari Removes Additional 60 Days of Playtime Offer

This past Saturday morning, we reported that Atari was offering Star Trek Online for a limited time discount of $10.

This past Saturday morning, we reported that Atari was offering Star Trek Online for a limited time discount of $10. While some players complained, the majority of the community took that aspect of the deal in stride. What got everyone worked up was the offer of an additional 60 days of play time being offered to consumers that purchased the Collector's Edition of the game before 9pm PST, March 3rd, 2010. The offer now simple states:

Save $10 on Star Trek Online until Wednesday March 10th, 10am EST.

What started out as a voracious wildfire has now grown to a full blown conflagration as the offer has now been removed from Atari's site. Even worse, rumors and unconfirmed pieces of evidence are beginning to spring up, which allegedly shows customer support claiming there was never any offer of an additional 60 days of game time.

While no one has provided me with indisputable proof yet (as compelling as it may be), the charges are troubling. It's one thing to make a mistake, remove the offer, and post an apology. It's another thing entirely to pretend the offer never existed and refuse to honor it as members of the Star Trek Online are claiming.

Legitimate issue or conspiracy fodder? Let us know what *you* think!

UPDATE

Cryptic added the additional statement (in this post) moments ago, showing they *will*, in fact, honor the previous agreement:

Addendum: I've heard many voicing concerns that we will not be honoring this sale for anyone who took advantage of it this weekend. This is not the case at all, and anyone who decided to take advantage of the offer will receive what they purchased, as advertised.

While it's sad things got this out of hand over the past few days, it is encouraging to see Cryptic stepping in to set things straight.
